Postby In kaleidoscopes » Jan 22nd, '07, 18:54

hey guys,

Wondering your guys preferance is! Setting, of course, is so key to a performers persona. Im such a musically involved person that I almost always have to calm mine, and my clients, mind with just the right tune.

wondering what your favorite performance music is?

well, this needs defining a little more.
are you asking about magic here? i was going to say Drum n bass right away, it's what i do most of my performing to, but then thats glowstick and poi stuff mainly, that fits the music.
if we are talking magic, which i can only assume we are then it depends on the kind of music, some ellegant packet trick that doesn't really involve the spectator would be best suited to something classical or ambient, whereas a display of XCM would be better suited to the DnB, although classical manipulaiton would probably not me.
and again, it all depends on your character i guess.

It does really depend on the effect for this one...

Why is there no classical option?

thats a very good question! I think I wanted to aim the question outside of the poll and just ask in general what you guys felt comfortable with

true, classical can make a magic performance very very moving

Well, as I said before, it really depends on the effect.

Surely I can't be the only teenager who prefers Mozart to 'P-Diddy' ?

I find Derren's nail up nose effect (although it isn't a trick) very lovely, and I would imagine that is partly because of the great sound track- the piece which Derren first heard at the National Parrot Sanctuary. I can't for the life of me think of it's name. I will have to consult the DVD comentary at some point, sure it's on there. The word concerto comes to mind, but I might be wrong. Anyway, back to the thread..

Best use of music I've ever experienced was by Rene Lavand who used Mozart's 21st Piano Concerto to his performance of "Why Do The Colors Alternate Themselves?".

So moving.

I am currently working on getting some music written just for a few stunts of mine, my dvd and shows. And I am working on getting permission to use music by some big names (ie; big and rich...)

My shows are very "american" (patriotic) so i use a lot of country music (being that most patriotic music is country). And i use some new age instrumental.

It's a hard list to compile, but some tricks go well with classical and some with jazz.

I prefer silence, but that's because I talk a lot.

I am curious, is the claim that country is the most patriotic based on any solid evidence? Quite a lot of it is subversive about the American condition, inequalities, and the hardlife in the country.

i've just got this image of someone performing to that film Team America theme tune...

howabout the Minder theme tune, coupled with a few cheeky winks?

maybe some soft classical, but personally - silence...

I like to use something nice, slow and calm. Something like Clannad or Enya are favourite for me.
