I have been interested the art of magic coming close on 20 years. I had my own entertainment company where I promoted companies & products as well as providing entertainers for a variety of shows.
My preferences in Magic would lean toward performances for Adults, However the odd children's show does make it's way into the Diary. My repetour has included a variety of performances ranging from close-up work to Stage performances. Unfortunately never on a scale where I have many dancers and all the other glitz and glamour of show-biz.
I enjoy a variety of material although card palming I can not quite get to grips with even after many moons of practice. My favourite material is some of the good classics of magic especially working with silks.
Nearly two years ago I relocated to the UK from Sunny South Africa. Although I have been here for some time I have only recently managed to get on line. Hence the reason I am on this forum. I need to get in contact with fellow Magicians as I feel that most fellow magicians give support on things that happen and generally give you an honest opinion what your performance looks like. I feel never take what your audience says to heart, especially when they say you are the greatest magician I have ever seen!
I look forward to some interesting discussions on various aspects of our art. I will be glad to give assistance & advice wherever I can.
Sorry if the poll does not cover all scenarios!

Hi Stretch and welcome.

I totally agree with your comment about listening to compliments from your audience, its nice and appreciated, but can enlarge ones head and make one a little complacent

Welcome

These types of performances are usually a good way of getting some publicity too, particularly if you're a working magician.

I feel never take what your audience says to heart, especially when they say you are the greatest magician I have ever seen!

Good advice BUT, you still have to listen to feedback in order to improve. If the comments are good then at least you know that your presentation is spot on and at the end of the day, everyone loves hearing that they've made a great impression

You questionare did not really conver my situation! I have been approached (twice) by charitires (but never offered to perform at charities). I always enjoys to perform at charities since no money are involved and no one will question whether my entertainment is worth £300.

Magic is slight of mind!

Hello Stretch from Maidenhead and welcome to TM.
About card palming, have you studied Royal Road to Card Magic?
With warm greetings from Iceland!

Yes I have read it unfortunately due to the way my hands were made I have rather large gaps between my fingers cards often can be seen through them especially with a back palm. they tend to slip out. I can do some palming but it is not one of my strong points
Never the less there is still a large variety of magic to perform.

Unfortunately it is rather difficult to include all scenarios, I am glad you do charity work. you do have a valid point :!:
I will be giving some of my thoughts on the topic just after the poll closes.

Like dat said this is a great way to get publicity or your c.v up if your starting.Me personally will offer charity gigs all through my life. Simply because you have no pressure also its a good oppurtunity to try new effects also i cant really afford to give money to charity even thoe i would like to so this is my way of giving them something i suppose its not alot but its something. Plus my son is autistic so i know what its like to live with a disabled child and its great to see there face light up when you make something special happen for them.
