The Afflicted - Marc Spelmann

Postby Mr Toucan » Feb 1st, '07, 03:22

Hi,

My wife bought the 4 DVD Marc Spelmann set for my birthday and I have since bought the 'The Afflicted' trick which he demo's on the DVDs.

I don't want to give away any secrets so I am being vague with my description but if you have the trick I'm sure you'll understand.

My problem comes with preperation of the bit that gets pierced. As you know you have a choice of 2 possible setups but I cannot find a way to fold mine that looks convincing ie when I try to fold it to line things up it looks completely unnatural - normally you would fold into thirds or quarters but I have to have odd diaganols to achieve one possibility and the other I can't sus out at all.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

James

Not sure if I have done something wrong!

As I haven't had any replies to my post, I'm wondering if I have done something wrong. Have I given too much away or do you need proof that I have bought the trick. I'm a new user and want to get things right so please advise if you can!

Hi Mr. Toucan!
Well, you've asked for help on something that you've bought (or your wife, same difference!) and you haven't given anything away, so I don't think you've done much wrong, don't worry!

The only thing is that we get quite a lot of "fly-by-nighters" who join up, ask a question (even if it's a legit one) and we never see them again... just gets a bit dis-heartening! It's nice to get to know people a bit, get to know their level of magic etc - that way we can advise as best as possible. TalkMagic has quite a good reputation (as far as I'm aware...!) of being a friendly community rather than a place to show off or bait others, so if you do plan on sticking around (and you're most welcome!), pop over to the intro section and tell us a bit about yourself.

With regard to the question in hand, it's quite specific, and answerable only from people who own this product. I don't, so I can't help you! But but believe it or not, folk on TM have jobs too ( ) so don't fret about not getting an answer within a few hours... chill out, introduce yourself, have a look around... I'm sure someone will have something to say! :)

Thanks Farlsborough

Hi, being a bit of a technophobe I must admit that I rarely post on forums despite veiwing this one for a while - as an amateur I'm not too sure how much value my opinion will have for anyone, but point taken, I'll post an introduction and try to add my two pennuth to some other threads.

Thanks again,

James

It could also be that we don't have many members with those DVDs at the moment. Sometimes it takes a while for a post to get noticed and answered so give it while longer, you haven't broken any rules or anything so there should be no problems :D .

I've got the DVD's but haven't got around to watching them as yet. However, I bought the Afflicted when it came out and it was a nice little trick although I haven't used it in a long time now.

Firstly, you do indeed need to fold at odd angles but my advice is not to worry too much about this as the one that you pierce is in an envelope (if my memory on this one serves me correctly) and you then do what is effectively a B**l c****e using a TT.

No one has ever notices anything different about the folds. Just go for it and you'll see for yourself.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

Thanks for that DAT - I guess you're right, people probably won't look too closely into the folding.

Cheers,

James
