Hello from Barcelona

Postby magicforfun » Feb 2nd, '07, 17:46

I just wanted to say hi to everyone. I live in Barcelona Spain and I just started to work on some card routines. I am a 38 y.o. male.

Actually, my interest for magic, and specifically card magic, began not long ago at all. In fact it was 1 month ago(!). I saw a Cardini clip first. It was pure "awakening". Then I saw some Jeff McBride and Daryl routines. They are very different, but I found the routines with the cards so beautiful. Simplicity at its best! I like the ones where you just need a deck, no gaffs or other material (guess that will come later). So I started to do some studying on the subject (thank you internet!). When the first sleights where revealed to me, my whole body shivered. Literally! I can only say I wanted more of it!

So now I am in the middle of the process of learning the techniques behind the sleights. Some routining so I can see where it leads to, but basically techniques. My respect for this art is great to dare misusing it. Many masters have put many hours into this. (Does this sound too corny?)

So maybe you will not see a lot of threads by me in the beginning when I practice the techniques, but I will most definitely be following the forum.

My aim is just to have fun, and create magic for friends.

Talk to you soon!

¡Hola amigo de Barcelona y bienvenido a TM!
Yes, Cardini was truly a master and he performed delicate card magic with gloves on his hands. That's becauce he used to practice in the trenches during WW1 and it was so cold, he had to wear gloves :)
You find threads about Cardini, Jeff McBride and Daryl here.
¡Con saludos calientes de Islandia!

Compliments on your English, seen the fact that you're living in Spain! :o

If you're looking for a few good sites to find sleights etc:

www.magichat.co.uk

It's a very good site. You will have to answer a few questions about magic to gain acces to the good tricks and sleights, but it is worth it!

I hope you'll enjoy your stay! :)

Thanks to you all guys! Been practicing hard this weekend.

Gunnar: you know many languages! By the way, yoiu don't happen to know Eidur Gudjohnsen (football player from Iceland for those of you who don't know)?

Thanks for your support Pendulum. I use Daryl's DVD (8 volumes) to learn. Do you think ot is too advanced? Some of the first sleights he does appear quite easy, but it is his natural handling that I find difficult to replicate now in the beginning.

I've met him a few times. He actually lives (when he's in Iceland) next street to me and his eldest son attends the same school as my sons :)
