Just landed first couple of gigs

Postby I.D » Feb 6th, '07, 13:45

I just got back off my 10 day holiday in Spain yesterday. I got to work today and one of my friends sister is getting married in summer 2008 and wants to book me to do walk around magic :D They had been looking online but my friend at work convinced them to use me. Being over a year away I have plenty of time to get some good solid maybe even completely original material together.

Also have a friend in Birmingham who asked the same thing. He wants to book me as a gift to his sister. Wedding summer 2007.

And another mate at work wants to book me for his daughters 12th birthday this summer.

i would say keep it up, but it sounds rather salacious...

well done mate...keep going...dont forget to drop a few business cards around too...

and there's a nice teaser-way of finishing a performance too if you read on-line visions...just stop part way through an effect and say to them "we'll finish that next time.." and leave the card with them...

Sounds good. I ordered my first 250 business cards from Vista about a week and a half ago. Very basic business card for now.. just a white card with offsets of blue and a picture of rolling dice *( couldnt find anything else magic related.. well I could but.. not too good with computer graphics Im afraid!! ).

Anyway I have a title on the card ' Mind over Magic' as I like that and it when I eventually acquire a status of a mentalist will go nicely. The only reference I have found to Mind over Magic is an episode of a childrens programme in 2002 so I do hope its original.

Is anyone here good at computer design.. ? cue a ton of responses reponses  I wanted to import images into my vistaprint account but it looks really bad.. I cant create the kind of image I would like. But I do like what Ive done so far

Well done I.D!!

On the last point you made I can agree wholeheartedly. I've been looking into getting a new batch of business cards as my first load are really terrible. As with you I am no good with computer graphics and I'm certainly completely useless at any sort of design. I looked into getting a business card design service and the cheapest quote I could find was £80 for a design and then the price of the cards on top bringing it to £120.
I can't even begin to afford that at the moment.

Anyway I'll digress into a moan if I'm not careful and I wish to keep this positive so Well done I.D and let's hope this is the first step to big things for you

I work in a graphic design studio (I am a web developer here). We are in Ireland though so I don't know what postage will be like to the uk. 500 cards (High quality stock and a great finish) will set you back 99 euro (Just over £65). That price includes design but not VAT (Which is 21% in Ireland, dunno what it is for ye).

AFAIK Lady of Mystery is also a Graphic Designer so she might be able to help you out, and I think seige dabbles a bit.

Imma graphic designer myself, and I designed a basic businesscard for myself to look like the Jack of Spades, obviously bridgesize because of the usual size of the businesscard is more like that.

It has both sides like normal playing card and the size is normal business card. On the pictureside it has just white box in the middle that has my name, email, phone, backside has the usual bridge playing card's design.

It's fun to do a forcecard-routine with it, and give it as a" souveniour"
