Another newbie

Hi, you seem a friendly bunch. ;-) At least, I haven't witnessed any major brawls yet.

Excuse me diving right in and saying hello. I should probably hang around a bit and learn more than one trick before I do. But I've never had much patience in that respect.

I'm v keen to learn and will start with card tricks as well as taking on board your suggestions etc

I also wondered if you ever meet up at all? Or is there a network of magic groups around the country I should know about?

At the moment I spend half my time in London and half near Chichester, West Sussex.

Hi and welcome - one trick done well is far better than 10 done badly. (All I have to do now is manage that one trick and I'll be OK!)

There are some stickies about what to buy to start magic and that sort of thing but probably best to check out the Reviews sections and then the Tips and Support section. Lots of useful facts and fiction in them all!

I'm a fairly new member as well and I've been lucky enough to meet other members either at local magic society meetings or conventions.

We're planning a meet up soon at the Blackpool convention. If you're going why don't do visit this thread.

Thanks again.

Jericbilo - I took a look at the Blackpool thread and am v jealous I wont be able to go this year. I hope you all have a great time. I look forward to hearing all about it and will keep an eye out for any other meetings between you tricksters. Maybe this time next year I'll be worthy of such a place!

Can I ask another really basic question? I want to start with card tricks so I've ordered The Royal Road to Card Magic.

I'm wondering where to look for some decent decks of cards, not trick ones, just good ones for practice that look better than the cheapies you get in the high street!

Is there a good site for basic things like that?

Bicycle Brand Cards are usually recommended and you can get them from most magic suppliers. Check out www.nothingupmysleeve.co.uk, www.magicbox.uk.com, www.cards4magic.co.uk or any of the advertisers on TM's pages.

Hello 1trickpony

Welcome to TM and I hope you get everything you are looking for from the site. Most of us are really friendly and able to help or point in the right direction.
You asked about meet ups and there is one trying to be organised at the moment in Central London during the week. I fyou go to the Events page it is under London Clubs/meetups I think.
