David Blaine at the LG Shine Launch

Postby Tomo » Feb 16th, '07, 12:06

Last week, David Blaine performed at the LG Shine phone launch. I've yet to remember the name of the effect, but the presentation is, well, you decide:

To be honest I find the presentation of that really dull. Now I like the original Blaine Street Magic special and it did begin a huge surge of interest in magic with the general public but he certainly isn't good with stage presentations as he has the charisma of a goldfish.

I just find him so boring and lifeless. A little smile, a joke and maybe some audience interaction wouldn't go amiss.

...i was always under the assumption that blaine did his sleep-eyed and monotoned voice to suggest that he was putting the hoodoo on people, a fake kinda semi-waking trance style way of speaking...

or he'd just smoked something he maybe shouldnt...

I sometimes wonder whether the guy is actually in a coma. The thing I find hard to fathim though is the fact I feel compelled to watch his specials as I think much of the magic on them is good. But I think that's more Paul harris than Blaine?

As I mentioned somewhere else, on one of his TV shows right at the end they showed a few 'out-takes' with David laughing his socks off at something said or done by the specs. He's a completely different guy when he smiles, very human and not at all 'Blainesque' so there may still be hope for him......

I agree with Abraxus, when Blaine first came out I really thought that was his 'style', to be dark & mysterious...

Now I just think he is way too boring.. I think he must have had a lonely childhood.

No jokes, no storylines EVER.. nor reasoning behind anything he does..

I think Paul Harris is genious, so Blaines effects naturally are pretty good, but thats just it, potentially great effects in my eyes get watered down as they are not interesting enough.. I certainly dont feel drawn in by whats going on..

When I watch Jay Sankey.. he is genious imho.. and I get drawn in to everything he says.. just like a layperson.. I often watch so intensely I forget to actually practice anything on the DVD.

Blaine just annoys me now as I want to slap him and say '' Tell me a story.. draw me in.. come on man.. Im a sittin duck and your just lookin at me like you forgot your lines!! ''

Critiquing David Blaine is often some of the funniest stuff that I read.

Where is he? On television, making money (BIG money) and being famous.

Where are you? At home, on your computer, living in obscurity.

Say what you will about him, he's the one who's famous and making money.

Don't like his presentation? Think he's boring? Do better than him and prove your point, otherwise the proof is in the money.

Mike.

Never believe something is static when you've seen it just once in one place. Instead remember you need to see it twice to plot a vector. Some may be at home commenting on this now, which is one place, but you have no way of knowing what they do when not posting here. Some of the best entertainers in the world have never been on TV, nor have any desire to do so. Think back to the transition from music hall to TV and the need to abandon acts honed and perfected over many years in favour of generating new ones every week fro a passive and indifferent medium. Would you rather be in a position to have one superb act and show it to many live audiences, or have to come up with a complete act of the same quality every week? Now ask yourself if you've not been a little judgemental.

David Blaine is only famous as magic had died down, and he strolled into a broadcasters office and handed them a videotape. And the story ends there.

Many people do not wish to be famous, not on TV anyhow.

I wouldnt put him on the same level as creators of effects, he has a creative director, a genious one at that.. but Blaine reminds me of a dog.. his owner throws a bone and he runs after it.. then he returns to his owner for his owner to throw his bone again..

For Gods sake, throw your own bone. I dont see Blaine as creative genious, he is creative flaw...

Being on TV does not make you entertaining.. having a personality does.. David B does not have a personality.. with all the money he has he ought to buy one!!

wow, are you one of those "unless you've played professional golf you cant have an opinion on Tiger Wood's swing" types? come on Michael, people are just voicing their opinion. If people ONLY spoke about subjects they were 100% qualified to talk about... the world would be a pretty quiet place. lighten up a little.
