I'm feelin green and Slimey as it is Monday and I've only had 5 hours sleep.....again!!
Also I really hate December too with all those tacky christmas decorations and adverts reminding us every 15 mins that the route to a successful holiday is to spend spend spend.
At least his year I dont work near Oxford Street cause that is a bloody nightmare.
So that's why I'm feeling green and Slimey and it'll take alot to cheer me up I tell ya.

I am green and slimey cos I quit my job to persue my own interests last Friday.

And now, my boss (well, future ex-boss) is telling me he is going to have to close the business.

Kind of makes me feel a bit poo-ey.

Also, in the act of 'guarding my privacy', I removed all my mail, internet, banking etc. accounts and passwords from my work computer, and did a final synchronise via my 'user' account which I keep on my iPod. I did that all last Thursday before I did the deed, and now I can't access my blooming emails etc.

Add to that, it seems from my contract that I was paid a month in advance. I seem to remember this was an enticement—as I was 'headhunted' for this job.

Ergo, I won't get paid at the end of December.

And, even more upsetting, I've taken only 4 days holiday this year... and according to my contract, monies aren't paid for holidays not taken.

So, I think January is going to be a very lean month! I've already spent our savings, plus more, on getting my new ventures up to speed... none of which can 'legally' happen until I leave my day job!

Ahhhhrrrgghghhhg!

A complicated tangle!

Add to that the fact I have had about 3 hours sleep since last friday and today (yes, literally only about 3 hours) and you will deduce why I am everson slightly naggy.

Life has been better, I assure you!

In theory, this short-term misery will be all sorted by next year. Which sounds ages away, but i'ts only 28 days to go!!!

Phew!

how much notice do you need to give? I would start taking some holiday!

sounds like exciting times :) understand your cash worries but it still sounds like you will be sorted soon :)

good luck! I need to sort myself out!

Nasty. That happened to me in my second ever job. I got knocked back as a VAX operator with a big company and took a job programming 6502s for a realtime data capture application in an old guy's cellar (wall to wall tea and Radio 4, lovely!). He was great, and had lots of stories about working on the British space programme in the 60s. He was a huge Goons fan too. Anyway, a year later I got a call out of the blue from the big company to say that the girl they gave the VAX job to was leaving and would I like to pop in for a chat. I got the job and had to tell Geoff I was going. He just said, "Well that's that then," and retired. I felt bad for a long time.

Thing is, I shouldn't really feel guilty. He's been charging out my time at £350-£450 a day on average—it equates to the fact that if I work a fully-billed four days a month, my wages are covered—and considering I don't get bonuses or overtime as such, and a pretty low salary, I think that I've been a total mug to have even put up with it for this long.

They've become far too reliant on me here, and by me leaving, they need to employ three people to fill my role (I kid you not) or be very fortunate in finding someone with the same qualifications who's prepared to travel up a hill in treacherous conditions most of the year round.

Nobody is 'indespensible', but the amount of responsibility they've burdened me with over the years, and the leeway I've given them, has meant that my role here is such that I am literally the only one here who does what I do... graphics, web, maintenance, programming, IT, proofing, design, seeing clients, photography, office management, team management.

It all gets too much.

Ohhhhhh yes.

£15k bonus, payrise, plus 33% partnership

None of which interested me in the slightest to be honest.

Let's just say, I have an investor who is very interested in NUMS. Plus, he's from the US... which makes supply/demand a lot easier.

The mainstay of the business will be what I know best... rattling out artwork and ramping up people's marketing. I've helped to save 4 'stagnant' businesses in the last year from going under with my 'marketing solutions' whilst in the employ of the parasites, so I really hope some of that pays off and works for me!!!

Also, a couple of secondary projects which are a bit hush-hush, but if I can find suitable investment enough to take them to final working prototype, I just *know* that large corporations will take them off my hands. I've not had the time to develop them to their full potential of late, and I know that if I don't do them soon, someone will beat me to it.

Hi Siege,

It all sounds a bit stressful at the moment but the big thing is that you have had the guts to do it, something I have never managed.

I am sure things will get a lot less green and slimey, just don't go all pink and fluffy on us!
