Antique aquired - Die Box

Postby Fred » Feb 24th, '07, 13:38

I have always been attracted to the classics, cups and balls, cards, coins etc and one trick always fascinated me, The Sliding Die Box.

Having decided that this year I will really make an effort to practice and develop my skills I knew that at sometime I would want to learn this illusion. Bless me if I didn't come across an old example this week which I bought for a very reasonable amount of cash, considering what a new one costs. Whilst I expect I will have to get a nice bright shiny new one if I ever pluck up the courage to perform in public I thought this would do to practice the moves and develop some patter.

I think I have largely worked out the method but I was wondering if anyone would be able to PM me so I can run through the basics with them. I have included some snaps of the Die Box I have (minus the feke), its a four door back and front version.

Heres hoping someone doesn't mind helping and steering me in the right direction if I have got it wrong.

That looks like an extremely good find so well done! I don't have any routines for this item but Hawkins Bazaar shops were selling a miniature version for a very modest sum quite recently which might give to a clue as to one way of performing it. I checked their online catalogue but it isn't showing in there although it was certainly on sale at Blackpool last weekend and I'm sure was in our local Hawkins as recently as 4 weeks ago.

PM me if nobody has sorted you out ;)

But briefly, you remove the dice from box, and place it into a top hat or a bag or similar, and say "would you like to see the dice jump back into the box visibly or invisibly" they say visibly. You pick up the die from the hat open up the die box door, and place it inside. (if they say invisibly use the old its jumped and jumped back gag, then say i'll do it visibly) That's your switch as such.

I think its pretty self explanatory from there, at the end it really does jump invisibly back where you started into the hat or bag.
