For mental magic, you're best bet is to start with Karl Fulves' "Self-working Mental Magic" from Amazon. Don't be surprised that it and the "bible" of mentalism, "13 Steps To Mentalism" by Tony Corinda, are full of physical procedures and techniques rather than strange mental effects. It's all magic at it's root. Purely psychological stuff needs some skill with performing, and you'll get performing experience from those two books. Another, equally good, book is "Practical Mental Magic" by Annemann.
If you're up for the first ever book in English about magic, it's regarded as being Reginald Scot's "The Discoverie of Witchcraft", printed in 1584. The full text can be found here:
