you might want to get a book on cartomancy...

cards4magic.co.uk have a section of re-printed cards, some from the henry VIII era...

as for tricks...well, im a little confused at that - if you're performing at a medievil banquet, surely you'd have something planned already? anyway...you could always buy The Discoverie of Witchecrafte and go from there!

How about using minor arcana tarot cards (that's the swords, cups, staves and pentacles). I use those instead of playing cards at halloween, they go down really well.

ouch! though you should never riffle shuffle a set of tarot, thats bad ju-ju if you believe in that kinda thing, plus it does suggest that you are doing "tricks" with the tarot, rather than using them to do something intuitive..though certain self-workers would be appropriate...

As mentioned, cards4magic are probably the best place to try with their vast selection. Check out http://www.cards4magic.co.uk/acatalog/F ... Packs.html for starters.

That's a very good point, I'd never thought of it that way before.

Sorry, I seem to have dropped into a good mood by mistake today. I'll go chase a few customers for well overdue invoices or spend an hour or two holding on the British Gas 'Helpline', that'll put me back on the grumpy old git track!

You've been having fun with the British Gas helpline too have you Mandrake?

My record at the moment is 55 minutes before getting fed up listening to Fairytale of New York and hanging up.

I usually end up getting passed around from department to department, eventully comming back to where I started from in the first place and being told that the person I need to speak to isn't in today so call back tomorrow.

*cough* hijacked! *cough*

anyway, back to tarot decks, dont dismiss this as too easy, but, well...a friendly old key card control works wonders...build up the presentation slowly, all through intuition/ye sprytes and daemons...

a quick character reading before the final reveal..."i feel you were drawn to this card because....blah blah blah"...or you could even describe what the card looks like too...

Mandrake started that, not me :P

I quite like doing tarot readings for couples and revealing the Lovers and the Devil (a good card for couples, believe it or not).

One piece of superstition that I always stick to, never do tricks with the same deck that you do real readings with. I keep two different decks for each purpose.

If you're using a plastic or very stiff tarot deck, try stripping it using wet and dry paper. then you can locate any card you like. If you don't like the idea of turning the cards, combine a stripped and an un-stripped deck.

L of M,

You use one tarot pack for performing 'Magic Tricks' yet you use another deck for what you call 'Real Readings'

As magicians, we all know that the likes of Houdini and Ricky Jay spent lifetimes exposing mediums and fraudsters who purported to have powers which all members of TM know is fraudulently untrue, so why do you have a deck of tarot cards only used for the real thing, when we all know there is no real thing ??
