Night at the museum

Postby moodini » Mar 10th, '07, 13:49

I am not a big movie guy, but has anyone seen the movie "night at the museum?" - I am not sure if I got the entire title right or not......anyway, apparently there is a scene in it involving a TT......is this correct, and to what extent/context do they do mention it?

I was at a party last night, and did a couple of fun little vanishes with the TT, the same as I have done for ages and never been caught, but a lady says to me......oh I learned how to do that stuff from the movie "night at the museum".......???????

Needless to say I was suprised, I am curious as to what anyone knows about the movie, and what the scene(s) involving at are all about? If the movie is popluar, is it something a regular TT worker should be concerned with?

Yeah - I've seen it and I thought it to be a very entertaining film that's worth a viewing.

However, the TT is exposed for all to see which is a real shame and annoying at that

The story is that the star is trying to find out how he can get around Ghengis Khan and he reads that Khan was mystified by magic to stop him being chased around the museum.

Anyway, the star (can't recall his name  ) shows a few vanishes which impresses Khan but a silk vanish results in the end being stuck out of the TT that he's wearing - effect ruined etc.

I've had a number of people comment on this to me and asked where thay can buy a TT and I've told them it's a special film prop that is made in the studio's  This seems to have stopped their inquisitness for the time being or maybe just realised that I wasn't going to tell them.

Give it a few months and I'm sure that they will all forget.

Dat, it was Ben Stiller..

Brilliant film.. it is not a huge part of the moveie.. but its does BLATANTLY expose the TT for all that it is.. silk hanging out and all!!

But in the grand scheme of things.. people's memory isnt that great.. I guess anything other than a silk would elude the layperson, even if he had watched the film

I brought this up on magic bunny a few weeks ago. It's a shame they don't respect our art.

You know....that was my feeling, you would think that making/directing/producing films is also an art, so you would think that they would have considered that. In all fairness to everyone outside the magic world, it is often assumed that a TT is a stupid little device used by children and beginners in magic.....I don't think anyone outside the magic realm would actually think that an established professional would use one.....but boy are they wrong!

I actually did a childrens party today and a couple of people mentioned it to me again........the movie is IN our theatres here at the moment, so it is very fresh in the minds of people. I guess I will just need to be more creative in my handling and such, to make people feel that it isn't being used!

I remember when I was about 7 a magi came to our school and his TT fell of mid act! We roared with laughter as it made him more of a clown than a magician... However it did do irriparable damage to my perception of the TT. So much so that depite having several I have never nor do I think I will ever be able to use it.

... :-( sad but true.
