Card switching cases.

Postby Lord Freddie » Mar 12th, '07, 19:31

I am planning on doing the 'Torn Card To Orange' effect and was wondering whether those card switching cases can switch torn pieces of card.
I have never bothered using one of these and I know that it can switch one card for another but can you switch torn pieces of a card for a torn corner of one?

If anyone has tried this, please let me know as this is part of the method I would like to use for this effect.

Mods I have tried to avoid using any kind of exposure. If I inadvertantly have, please edit!

If the pieces go into the case and there the magic happens  then Angel Case in Art of Astonishment Volume Two will get the job done nicely.

Thanks, I've yet to get the Art of Astonishment books (very high on my list though!)
I have seen these cases which switch cards, but don't use gimmicks really, and wondered whether it had to be a whole card.
I am planning to have the corner already in there and use it to switch the pieces.

switch cases can be used for switching pieces and bills, notes, money and basicly anything that will fit.

you can make your own gravity ones very easily especialy if you by one cheep from marvins.

I've been wondering about a switch case for a while, but more fore envelope/billet work actually. Does anyone have any experience with the Kozuch Card Switcher? Apparently the card stays in full view!

That sounds excellent. Where can you get these from?
I have looked at different methods of Card In Orange and the vanishing of the torn card pieces is the part I want to use a cleaner method for.
The one using a handkerchief in Tarbell 1 is good, but I want to find a way that is cleaner and less fiddly. Using a card case in conjuction with flash paper may dramitise the vanish.

Tarbell has lots of double envelopes which could be used instead. Or maybe a Himber wallet? Or Corinda's billet pull?

I have a Tenyo card case which would do what you want, and you can get similar ones on Ebay, but I would tend to avoid suspicious looking props.

once you have the theory then why not introduce the case to keep your cards in, then use it to keep the pieces safe wilst you follow through with the trick, logical and a good escuse for having the case to hand.

Thanks for the advice chaps. I have wanted to do this effect for a long time as it one of those that always get a good reaction.
I have read quite a few methods and want to find the cleanest disposal of the pieces of torn card.

Barry, you're right that the card case would look suspicious, but I think the Hanky that Tarbell suggests could be viewed this way too. I have toyed with the idea of a change bag or envelope (thanks to Corinda & Tarbell) but am I right in thinking that a change bag would be suspected by adults as it's used quite a lot for childrens magic.
Thanks for the idea of using the case to keep the card in MagicDiscoMan, are these cases thick enough to hold a full pack? I have never used one before as I have never felt the need, but thought it could come in handy here.

iv'e tended to make my own based on the marvins method you can pick up many tobacco tin designs from shops that will hold a deck, a couple of extra bits and your done.

You can mod a regular card box quite cleanly using a blank face card and a dab of glue. The beauty is that its only natural that you would have a card case with cards and can be left on the table for the performance - hidden in plain sight!!
Made correctly the box can even be shown to be empty (even if it cannot be handled!!)
