Dream Routine

Postby sleightlycrazy » Mar 14th, '07, 06:09

Honestly, I'm not mature enough at magic to put too much thought into the philosophy of magic (though I find Paul Harris' fascinating), but lately, I've been trying to come up with a string of tricks that make sense together.

It should last about as long the latter half of my lunch period. (Approx. 10 min)

I walk towards the specs (my friends, so no formal intro is necessary) and produce a pen. I do a variation of Appolo Robbin and Greg Wilson's "Recap" silently. I don't do the vanish at the end, but just grin for a few seconds.

I move on to "Reality Twister" with patter along the lines of dreams and memories; how when you try to remember dreams, you often fill in the blanks and ultimately change the dream entirely.

Comments appreciated.

One question, What is the Gestalt move, I know plenty of moves but never really took the time to learn the names, I just found out that the Shapeshifter and erdnase move I've been doing since I was a kid actually have names, For all I knew , I came up with them haha.

It's not a move, it's the name of a Luke Jermay effect in which you cause someone to forget the name of the card they chose.

It's a nice little routine - although I'm not sure about going into RGM as it sounds like your patter will really lower the chances of success (conventionally, that is ).

I was hoping that I can use an "anchor" when I warp the pen and talk about the instant loss of a memory. The anchor would be a snap and a wave of the hand.

I'm not so sure that would work - all you would be anchoring would be the reaction to the magic; they have not experienced the inability to remember something at that point, so you have nothing to anchor... you also want to be very careful when playing about with peoples' memories and what they can remember.

I'd say stick to the original handling of RGM and just be wary of how you introduce it.

Thanks, I'll change the order. Since a good presentation of "Reality Twister" is pretty darn powerful (thanks to a switch, I can have them inspect the pen) it'll end the routine well.
