Maths Problem

Postby Sir_Digby_Chicken_Ceaser » Mar 14th, '07, 21:00

Hey guys.

Got a bit of a problem. Usually I'm awesome with pythagorus but tonight my mind just won't work, 25 questions later I'm on to the last question which i just can't work out for the life of me.

Its is a right angled triangle.

I have worked the hypotenuse out to be 15cm
Side 2 is 13.27
Side 3 is 7

All i need is the formula to get the two remianing angles other than the right angle (90 degrees)

Thanks

Sam

i havent done this is a while but i believe the following is correct...

if you use sin, rather than cos or tan (as i did) you do the following

sin = opposite over hypotenuse sides.

the angle in between the 13.27cm side and the hypotenuse (15cm) you do the following:

sin = opposite over hypotenuse = 7 over 15 = 0.47

inverse sin 0.47 to be left with 27.82 degrees as angle one

to work out the angle between 7cm and 15cm you do the same forumula with different numbers...

sin = opposite over hypotenuse = 13.27 over 15 = 0.88

inverse sin 0.88 = 62.2 degrees as angle 2

and just to check...

62.2 + 27.82 + 90 = 180.02

PERFECT

:D

hope its understood. any questions just ask

Love

Chris

hehe...it's been a while since i last did trigonometory...im in a levels at the moment, and dropped maths a level :P

feels good to know i still remember the basics though 8)

you wait until higher level gcse.....that is when you have all kinds of pointless shapes asking the angle of a corner, in which you have to pythagorus, trig, and circle formulas for 23 minutes across the whole shape to get other lines and angles to work out that one bloody pointless angle :P

Dude, didn't you learn 'SOH CAH TOA' (Soak a toe?)

Sin = Opposite/Hypotenuse
Cos = Adjacent/Hyp.
Tan = Opp/Adj.

You know the sides you have, so you just do the math.
On your trig calculator, you INVERSE the Sin/Cos/Tan to get the angles...

So, i.e. Sin (angle) = Adjacent/Hypotenuse, you'll get 0.something. Then, key this in, and do INV SIN.

SOHCAHTOA, dude.

Sin=opposite over hypotenuse
Cos=adjacent over hypotenuse
Tan=opposite over adjacent

Measure the lengths and do the division. That's all you need, mate.

You can get to the moon like that, you know.

and here's me missing the maths questions! dear dear
been a while since i did trig like that though, give it to me in differential hyperbolics (which is actually a lot easier sometimes) or matricies or something and I'm there, but ask me to add something up and god help me

I can count up to 1023 in binary with my fingers and thumbs and, potentially, 1,048,575 if I take my socks off.

What a pointless skill to have... :cry:
