I have got this and have a problem with doing it. I am happy with how to select a chosen card and can go through the deck without doing any reveals but I can't seem to manage to reveal the chosen card. Does anyone have any tips to help me (without giving any secrets away)

Thanks

Wet the tips of your left thumb and third finger.
(I'm assuming you have the same problem as me)

Seconded, and don't use too much pressure.

put your third finger on the edge of the chosen card (and the card above it) so that when you push the upper card above across.....very gently, you can use your finger to ease the upper of the two across and control it's speed.

Does that make sense? Hard trying to explain without giving too much away.

An important point is that due to the nature of the way it works... Friction is good for the deck (you'll know what I mean if you have one).

So grip the deck tightly when spreading, but when you need to reveal the card, lighten up a bit, and brush it out with your fingers.

If it's a new deck you've got, sometimes they need a little wearing in. Riffle through them, work them a bit and you should find it easier.

The ID can suffer from 3 main problems:

1. In its new state, it may be over-tight
2. In an old state, it may be too loose
3. In a used state, the cards may get bent or buckled—also a killer

The symptom you have sounds like No.1 in the list, and the remedies can be:

1. Taking pairs, move them in circular motions against each other—gently—between the palms of both hands
2. Separate every card in the deck (keeping the order) separating each face
3. Spring the cards one way, then the other a few times
4. Practice the 'move' with EVERY card

I find the first of Siege's recommendations works great on it's own for a new ID. A little bit of rubbing and the cards get just that tiny bit smoother and it's much better. Careful you don't over-break-in your ID as you'll find you have the opposite problem!!!

thanks everyone - I'll try wearing them in. Wetting my fingers helped a bit. The problem i have now is that I've knackered my hands juggling all day on Friday for comic relief - so I'm having to rest them for a few weeks!

Don't mean to hijack the thread.... just wondering what you do if it is an old deck and is too loose?

Thanks,

I dont want to make another thread, but im having the opposite trouble. I keep revealing the cards acctually i think its the roughing fluid. Do you think some hair spray will work? Maybe just a squirt or two? :D

I think he was trying to let the original poster know what he meant without letting anyone that wanders in here looking for magic secrets know the answer... That whole "exposure" thing, ya know?
