please help me i saw a trick the other week and it is really annoying me how it is done. a rubber band and a borrowed ring and the man makes the ring travel up the streched out rubber band that is held at a angle. it is so simple but for the life of me i have not got a clue how it is done. i have been doing card magic and some close up stuff only for a short time so forgive me for being so silly. thank you. please help.

He didn't blatantly ask for the method. Although I must admit it smells of sinbin material, he may have just been asking for a book or dvd that teaches it.

Currently Reading "House of Mystery" (Abbott, Teller), Tarbell, Everything I can on busking

AJ, He's asking no differently than you have for the past week or so.

A little heavy handed maybe? :?

I know this trick is on the Jaw Beakers DVD set which I think is a great set of DVD's for people who just want to do do magic from time to time for friends. Basic visual stuff and comes with a free svengali deck. Ooooo

It's also one of those 'My grandad showed me' tricks.

I do believe it's in a Penguin kids book too.

I don't think the rules are clear enough on this problem.
There needs to be a rule added such as:

"No asking how do I do this/that trick"

The copyright rule and selling and trading rule is just confusing for the poor souls, and it doesn't actually state that non copyrighted techniques can't be sought.

The guy isn't asking for exposure... he's looking for guidance.

Could we stop being so harsh on guests, guys and gals, as it's rather offputting.

It's not in Complete Course as far as I can see.

It is, however, in Mind Magic by Marc Lemezma.

I like how this thread is going ... telling the new user what book, dvd will teach them the trick they are asking for.

 Maybe if someone ask how a trick is done, it would be better to just point them to the correct book or dvd that one can buy so they could then learn it.

Sometimes I think that is all these new folks (to the board, like me) are asking. I'm new to this board but not magic. I had the CUPS i'd say about 8 years ago, buying trick packets here and there. Now I'm back interested in magic and actually starting to "read" books I bought before.
With still a bit of cups lerking around.

Anyway, just a thought.

True.....sometimes we are quick to jump down on someone. Start by suggesting where the can find the effect for purchase, and if they continue to pursue, then "Fair game!"....but sometimes reading text does not do a question justice...the emphasis, tone of voice, etc....do not read well through text alone....remember (rough numbers) 35% is what you say, 65% is how you say it.....but in the online world, you don't get the benefit of "How you say it" so it is simply read based on your own impressions of what was being asked.......I think as a group we could try to be a little more accepting at first and let people feel things out for themselves......harsh responses all the time can give a bad image to a great site!
