Strange censoring

Postby Hade » Mar 16th, '07, 18:42

I've just seen someone say that something annoys the c*** (not the best) out of them. How come it's censored as c*** (not the best)? What's that 'not the best' about??!

Is there any other bizarre censoring going on here that is going to turn sentences into gibberish?

Just wondering, that is all!

Though I'm not a moderator here I have served as such with several forums and lend a hand on those sites I am involved in e.g. to answer your question, this is done simply as a means of allowing a point to be made without the more direct sense of expression... then again, I'm probably one of the more noted members here for using expletives that are "refocused" in this manner in that I tend to refer to horse puckey as being horse puckey rather than beating around the bush; if it swims in the water, has webbed feet, quacks and squawks, it's most likely a duck e.g. that is what I will call it... some prefer water fowl however... if you get my drift.

Just be grateful that you aren't at the Magic Cafe where censorship and dictatorship rule and if you don't play by whoever wants to make the rule of the days rule book, you get ousted... especially if you actually know something and don't kiss tukkis too well. No, the team here runs a very fair ship compared to some.

C**p can be used as a noun or an adjective. In this case, it's taken to be the adjective and censored as such. In other words you're describing something as c**p like you'd describe it as red or big. "This card trick is impressive" or "This card trick is c**p" (or rather "This card trick is c*** (not the best)").

On a family show like this

Yes, the verb. It's when my mind goes blank.

I think c*** (not the best) should be allowed through uncensored because its one of the more tamer swear words - they even say it on the Simpsons!

"Self improvement is masturbation of self destruction"

Oh, you mean 'turkeylegs'. I thought you meant the more offensive four letter word beginning with c!!

I guess now would be a good time to draw attention to the fact that it's actually very easy to get around the system (as shown above).

I won't demonstrate with the more offensive words, for fear of upsetting people, but I think the point is made, and it's perfectly possible with all censored words... (turkeylegs).

Sorry to post it, but I thought it should be known.

2 Points here:
It was said on Simpsons yesterday, and I'm all for cencorship, but I don't think it needs to be censored. What next, Poo, Damn and Golly?!!!

Also, censoring does not to be more than asterisks. Trying to be clever and adding (not the best) just turns sentences to gibberish, and does more harm than good.

Aye that c*** (not the best) thing confused me a bit for a while. It's hardly the most offensive epithet in the world is it?
