bite out coin (10p)

Postby magios » Mar 17th, '07, 21:00

I have just bought my first folding coins, (bite out 10p) and (coin in bottle 10p) I am struggling with making the effect look real, and avoid the spectator asking to examine the coin.

effect:
show a 10p coin, bite out of the coin and show it bitten, blow the coin and it repairs again.

problem 1:
how can i make the coin look like I am biting out of it, as when i try and make it look real the coin always flicks up :?

problem 2:
the spectator is always asking to examine the coin is there anything i can do similar to coin in bottle where It appears i use a borrowed coin and then give the coin back.

thank you Theo Ricketts

if you havan't already then get yourselfa copy of bobos modern coin magic there you will learn several switches and transfers that will help you borrow a coin and switch it for the effect.

to bite the coin since youv'e exposed it, hold the coin bye its bottom half and use your chin to fold it as you aparently bite the top off, the thumb grips the top edge of the coin as it folds backwards just enough to hold it in position.
hold coin just long enough for the initial gasp then spit it back on again.

the bobo switch is ideal for handing the coin back.

I'm basically with the magicdiscoman above!

His description of performance sounds about right.

The coin switch is a crucial move for any sort of coin magic, especially where gimmicked coins are used.

I thoroughly recommend Bobo's as a source generally, and definitely learn that switch!

I use the one hand switch a lot for the bite out coin once i have bite the coin and restore it I then switch it with a nother coin and hand it back to them . Then they check the coin out ask me to do it again then you switch it with the bite out coin then bite it then restore then repeat the method. a nother good idear is to get some of them fake blood capsule as you bit the coin put one in your math and it looks like your gum is bleading from where you bite the coin

the 4 dvd set inside Modern Coin Magic is a top one to buy I have learn a lot from this DVD

Personally, I think that the blood capsule idea will greatly detract from this effect. On ce people ralise that it's not real blood they will totally lose interest in anything else that you may do.

If the bitten coin routine is performed well and with a little stage acting then there is no need for any additional props.

I have to totally agree with the earlier post by Magicdiscoman - get a copy of Bobo's and learn to switch. Absolutely every spec you perform to with a bite out coin will ask to see it so a switch is essential.

Only my view though!

Your right about getting a copy of bobos I have learnt a lot from this book and 4 set DVD its good to here other people view that’s what make us learn I just gave it a go one day because someone said to me if you bit throw that coin you would Iver brake your tooth or cut your gum and there no blood so I just came up with that just to give it a go and I done it to someone else and I got a big responds and they felt it was great but then different specs think different and you can get some very real looking blood capsule but in a long run its dear I all ways try different ways.its somethink I had a go at but like dat8962 said they might totally lose interest in anything else that you may do. It might of work for me with some spec that I did it to but not with all.

Buy the book, the Dvd's are ridiculously expensive when you can learn all the same material for £9.99

I recommend the flying shuttle pass.

And the latest one is the new modern coin magic that’s a hardback book it is the newer one that has been updated its the same and has some new stuff in it they are both just as good you will learn a lot from both of them the new modern coin magic has better teaching bigger text for making it easier to read and learn from as well as bigger pictures you would be getting your money worth what every one you get and I have the new modern coin magic as well as the 4 set DVD me my self find it easier to learn from watching a DVD but you might find it better reading the book I study both book and DVD just so I get better every one is different but you would get your money worth iver way like GrantW say its whats cheaper for you I just wanted them so much I save up my money and I am so glad I did becuase I have come a long way by lots of hard practice and studying.
