SKY Broadband

Postby the_mog » Mar 17th, '07, 22:01

As a customer of the newly named "Virgin Media" i have been considering a move to SKY... however ive read a few reviews of SKY broadband and theyre not complimentary at all.

The basic jist of it revolves around the promise of 16Mb download speeds which turn out to be slower than Dial up!

if anyone has SKY broadband is there any chance you could let me know your thoughts on it?

TA!

Hi mog, I used to have telewest and I thought they were very poor but about 3 months ago I went to sky. My broadband is the second best one I dont know what speed it is i think it is 16mb actually and I have never had any problems with this. Since I have had it IM totally happy with it compared to telewest. You mention about the speed and being slower than dial up. Well since Ive had it about 99% of the time it has been very fast and up to speed but the other one percent it has been a little slower but no where near as slow as dial up. Anyway im a fan id rather sky to telewest anyday. Hope this is of some help.

id heard that if large files were downloaded ie. movies etc then the download speed dropped dramatically.

thanks for letting me know though :)

at lot of spead decrease is due to the lines that come into your house, when i was looking into changing from cable a line test from sky told me that the best i could expect was 100k not much more than 56k.
then there will be drops in speed depending on how many people are logged on at the time you download your big file.

sky has so far had a good record of providing consistant feeds at high speads much better than telewest but it will much depend on when if at all that your local exchanges have been updated all the way down the line to the local exchange.

Dont move!!

In the recent report by Which for ISP consumer satisfaction awards.. Virgin Media were number 1 ( as always ) in customer satisfaction.. Sky came 27th ( out of 28 ).

Skys broadband is LARGELY dependant on how far you are from the BT exchange server, what time of day you log in etc. You also need a BT landline at £11 per month.

If you only have broadband with Virgin Media.. you can get a landline ( line rental and free weekend calls ) for £2 a month!! And you can get XL ( 10mb ) for the price of L ( 4mb ) .. PLUS the 10MB broadband is being increased to a full 20MB in may!!

I work for Virgin Media and could sort you out with better deal.. special deals for TM members

but seriously.. sky are not getting great customer reviews at the moment. Plus Sky are set to lose a HELL of a lot of money from all the lost revenue they will have due to their programmes not being shown to over 3.3 million people plus the advertisers on those channels not being happy with the situation. Sky will probably have to put their prices up later this year.

I've always found Sky to be pretty good generally, as for Virgin...

Good old Sir Richard made his fortune off the backs of others, dumping anyone who was no longer of any use and scamming merrily left right and centre. If it wasn't for the success of his record company he might well be lliving in a box by now, it's about the only really successful thing he's done.

It seems that all his dealings are overshadowed by some sort of niggles, the latest thing with Sky is par for the course really.
