Old Cards

Postby Strep » Mar 20th, '07, 11:06

What do you guys do with your old, rather grubby cards?

I've got several packs building up and don't know whether to throw them out or keep them to practice 'torn and restores' and such like.

You've answered your own question ;)

You CAN teach an old deck new tricks...

Use them for practicing destructive effects, such as torn & restored, mercury folds, card warp, etc. etc. etc.

An old deck doesn't die... it just becomes repurposed ;)

I usually keep them for practice cards and for torn and restored or anything else that destroys the card

Mr Toucan - at last I know that I am not the only one who stores his old decks by suit, value and back!!! yay!!

I use my old ones for topping up 'ripped' decks, trying R+S ideas and Mercury Practise!! I also chuck the occaisional one into the oven when I have been cooking (oven off kids and get an adult to help) to create 'old and yellowed cards' Low temp/oven off though because otherwise they bubble!!

Thanks

can use them to make your own double backers..or special gaff cards etc. or a gimmicked deck such as cosmos (even though i use my cosmos deck day to day)
they come in useful old decks :)

Maybe it's me that's not skilled enough yet, but I can practice passes with any deck... I think. There's not a must for them to be new to practice the pass. Torn and restore sounds pretty straightforward.

I use them for practicing crimps, springs, flips and bridges.

There is of course the 'dirty card' technique of placing an old card in a new deck so that it's easily found. There are a number of routines that use this deceptive principle.....

Pick a stranger, do a trick and generously let them have the deck as a souvenir.......... then they're someone elses problem

That's actually a good marketing gimmick and something that I often do as I'm sure many others also do. To add to the effect I always glue a business card to the back of the card boxes so that they also have my contact details.

I second that Marvell or I give them to friends and family. I also find a deck can get completely wrecked and left behind in a bar. Especially when the drink is flying everywhere and people start to show me the four jokers robbing the bank.

Can anybody please help me? I'm having terrible problems controlling my streetmagic- I can't walk down a street without turning into a pub.

This is useful support for Marvellian Unbiquity Theory, since having a pack of your style of bikes behind the bar increases the scope for "impromptu" card tricks, if you see what I mean.
