How to get the cards back sliding again

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

I threw a deck of cards away yesterday just because I dropped them while practicing some flourishes.. just put them in the bin and pulled out a new deck..

People around me just looked shocked over something like that!! But Im not about to go picking up cards of the floor!!

I tend to go for the "prevention is better than cure" option. Either have a duffer deck for the pub or use their own. I have found no good way of consistently cleaning cards.

But Im not about to go picking up cards of the floor!!

Yea, that would be nearly as low as nicking hand wipes from fast food outlets ;)

Back to topic, what about using 'dead' cards for:
Keeping your hand in with knack'd decks (impromptu around auntie flo's - "Show use a card trick with these.." [insert 1970's dogged earred deck here])
Working on your card throwing skills (this could be used as an alternative to the 'square punch to the nose' out);
Honing your card splitting skills..

There was no RobLaughter on MagicBunny... There was a hodge podge of other Robs, but no Laughters (and that's "law-ter" rather than "laff-ter"). Granted, there is now and yes, it's me.

Back to the cards... If you don't have to perform any particularly difficult sleights, you could always use plastic cards. You could soak them in beer all day and not have to worry about anything after you soak them in hot water and dry 'em off.

Fascinating thread.

It's a pack of cards - easy to replace. If they get knackered, bin them and get a new deck.

Never understood people getting overly protective over something so disposable!

Hey thanks for all your advice, I guess reality is that a bar is just not the right spot for difficult tricks.

In "Expert in Card Manipulation" they somewhere in the Palming section give the hint that smoking a cig or lighting one with the hand that has palmed the cards is a very good distraction ... Probpably kinda bad for the cards though :)

Thanks
