I know you guys must be getting tired of my "lets hear your story" questions, and i apologize, but i think its interesting to hear from experiences of other magicians that are much more experienced than myself..... and ones that just have great stories.

So without further ado... heres another one...

I wanted to know your opinions of whether doing a trick as its meant, or makeing many improv's on one trick is more effective...
For example, some people on this site and others complain by saying they cant afford many tricks, but i have found if you experiment with sleight of hand and even the cheapest of tricks ( a deck of cards) you can produce a limitless entourage of new tricks that can amaze.

As always, I'd like to hear your thoughts

If everyone feels this is too similar to my other threads, please say so

you can perform the same trick essentially using just a different method and patter and it becomes another effect.

there's a hell of a lot of stuff thats just the same ancient technique or method, but dressed up in new clothing...

i think we owe it to ourselves to take our favourites, and tinker with them as much as possible to make them more personal and suit their style...

i mean, taking something as a card selected, passed, and top glimpsed, can be dressed as gambling skills or even a form of mind reading...it all depends on how you perform it and if it flows with the rest of what you perform...

the only downfall is with re-creating a classic effect, is that we can sometimes make it overly technically difficult, and forget how powerful the simpler things can be if delivered properly...

but yes, all techniques should be learnt properly, and then just adding your own creative twists and applications to it...

I always look for ways to modify tricks to look and feel right for my personality and style. I do perform a few tricks that have come up with myself, usually because I couldn't find one that was quite what I was after.

all are very true... i find that the more you dress a simple trick up, the more dramatic the effect becomes (SOMETIMES)
