Hello

Postby Ed Wood » Apr 5th, '07, 19:06

Hello all, I'm Ed from Crawley, West Sussex, 32 (although my age can alter dramatically depending on how much I've had to drink and what I currently think I can get away).
Started in magic when I was 12, lost interest during my mid 20's, probably due to my belief that carrying cards and playing with them everywhere I went was a major contribution to my lack of success with women. In my late 20's realised it was actually probably something to do with my looks and generally cantankerous personality and with inspiration from close up magicians such as the great Eugene Burger decided to give it another go.
Presently work occasionally in a lounge bar and do a very rare corporate shows. Sometime in the near future I intend to commit to it a bit more seriously when financially I can take the risk, for now I'm an antique restorer.
Love the Victorian/Edwardian era of magic, Devant, maskelyne, kellar etc.
Generally I swerve towards Mentalism (I hate that word!!!) of the Andy Nyman variety, actually employing the use of tricks, slight of hand and magic as opposed to the kenton Knepper, Banachek, Luke jermay psychological approach (at least in their respective literary outputs). Which is all well and good in books and on TV shows where you can afford to screw up and try again but not much good when working with a bunch of drunk girls who are only interested in whether you can "magic them up another Bacardi Breezer". So original!
My main belief is that we are attempting to imitate genuine magical powers. Given such powers I sure as hell wouldn't be wasting my time duplicating sponge balls (apologies to all who use such affects, I'm in no way knocking the effect or the dexterity required, it is just in no way fitting with my various routines and style) and telling third rate gags. If I can leave people entertained and slightly disturbed I'm happy.
Oh, and I have a habit of writing way too much on things like this, sorry.

Hi and welcome to TM

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!
