chain escape?

Postby raceteen48 » Apr 7th, '07, 01:03

hi,

I was just wondering, I know that there are a couple of chain escapes out there, does it have to do with the actual chain, or is it the way it is put on, meaning, do I have to buy the actual trick, or could I make one just buying some chain and a lock> if I need to buy it, what is a good one to buy and where can I find it?

thanks

Well, the way I learned how to deal with chain & rope ties was really simple... I let my friends tie me up... we must have spent three summers doing little other than finding ways of holding me down... none of them worked!

Learning some of the basic ties will be important... I'd suggest reading all the old Walter Gibson books on Houdini and I'm certain there are other resources now available vs. when I was doing that kind of stuff.

Escapes... that is "legit" escape work vs. gimmicked systems, require a bit of common sense, strength, endurance and determination more than anything else.

I had a local hardware store owner make up a steel ring about 6" in diameter with four bits of chain on it. Two bits of chain are padlocked onto each wrist. You need to work out the logic 8)

Chain Gang

Suggest that you start at the bottom and work your way up from there. Buy the SIBERIAN CHAIN ESCAPE. Mine originally cost 50 cents. Today it's probably a few dollars more. It is not gimmicked and it is very impressive. I still own and use mine. I also have a picture of Houdini performing it.

God, I love that trick! It's really useful for building skills in escapes. One time, this is no joke, I pulled a prank using this trick. I dressed up in khaki pants, shirt, and hat and had an older friend (he was around 25) bring me into this restaurant with the chains around my hands. He was dressed up to look like somewhat of detention officer and we sat down at a table. After about 10 minutes, I performed the escape and ran out of the restaurant laughing hysterically. It was hilarious! We were sitting in the back and people freaked out! Nobody even tried to stop me and my friend ran after me outside. So far, I haven't heard of anyone calling the police.

for escapes its usually best to start with ropes and work your way up.
the SBC is one of the "easier" escapes to perform, but without good presentation its pointless. The SBC can be done with many different things as well- chain, leather, belts, wire, and probalby a few other things.
There is also a second verion of the SBC.
A good place to start is at Cannons Great Escapes.

I have Dixie Dooley's "Escapology." It's a pretty good DVD, with plans for making escape chests, boxes, and others as well.
