Postby crozboz » Apr 14th, '07, 10:21

Can anyone help me. Im looking for the York Magic society, but i cant find anyone who knows. From what i've heard, its just elderly people, who dont want to let any new blood in.

Anyone got any ideas? Anyone from York who knows?

Thanks, Crozboz.

All the best,

If you look for a post by Bananafish, there is a link in his signature that lists all of the magic societies around the country. Let us know if you don;t find what you're looking for there.

It seems a pretty poor way to run a magic society if it's true that they won't allow new members, although I suspect that this is nothing more than rumour.

From what i've heard, its just elderly people, who dont want to let any new blood in.

I find that extremely unlikely. In my experience of UK magic societies they are mostly fun places to hang out. It may have been like that 50 years ago but nowadays a good perceb#ntage of magic society members are younger people.

And don't be put off by the older magicians either. They have a wealth of skill and wisdom to offer and (in my experience) they are always willing to help.

The page with the York Magic Societies details is here.

Assuming Michael Shepherd is still the contact - give him a call. I am sure he would be more than happy to chat with you and tell you more about the York Society.

Hey, thanks for that bananafish, unfortunately, i have to wait 'till October to join; still only 15. Grr, still, hopefully worth the wait,

Just noticed something, i thought i might google the society, and it came up with contact details, which are different to the one above.

Any ideas?

Thanks again.

As far as II know my details are more up to date - but you never know.

Try emailing or phoning anyway - a lot of societies will sometimes make exceptions to the minimum age rule - especially if you are very keen.

The weirdest thing just happened,

As soon as i saw the name, Michael Shepherd, I thought i knew it from somewhere. I didn't bother asking anyone in the house, as noone else cares about magic. But i went upstairs and checked my collection of business cards, i found i had not only met him, but he owns a local dealer shop where i go on a regular basis, and he is married to my mum's nurse.

This small world in which we live eh?

Ah well, since i know him fairly well, there may be a chance of getting into the club early. We'll see.

Thanks again for the help.

All the best,
