Magic Castle swap meet

Postby stevo4 » Apr 15th, '07, 04:25

I went to the Castle's swap meet today with a friend and picked up a few items:

Joe Porper's Toothpick Rod (all his stuff is very well crafted - mostly all his stuff is metal, not cheap plastic, and feels good in the hand. And he was there himself with his whole line of items.

A TT (lost mine a while ago).

NFW

Meltdown ( a simple 3 card trick where a card is placed face up between 2 other face down cards and they instantly change places. Very clever.

There were a bunch of booths set up throughout the castle with loads of classic as well as new items to be pawed over and swooped up. They also had a raffle for a Dai Vernon manuscript and the proceeds were going to help send (non-military) needed items to the soldiers in Iraq.

Oh how i wish i had more money to spend there...

Is "Meltdown" in any way similar to this?

As a matter of fact it is. I preferred the magician's delivery at the castle much more though. It was just baffling -and simple.

Thanks.

Do you need to be a member to attend this type of event at the Castle? I was in LA this past December and walked over to the Castle to have a look....quite an interesting old building from the look of it, curiosity was killing me to see the inside.......

PS...what area of LA are you in?

It is a private club as i believe you know, however, the swap meet which i think they have once or twice a year is open to the public surprisingly. In addition, you are not required to where jacket and tie for this event. (all other times women and men must dress up for entry).

It was $8 for non-members and $7 for parking if you drove. It was a total kid-in-the-candy-store time.

I live in W. LA, near Beverly Hills. About a 20 minute drive or so to the castle. Note, i am not a member yet but all members can bring guests or can give out passes to attend (without the member present). I am planning to join but need to figure out which effects i want to audition with.
