YIPPEE im gunna be a magician!

Postby 2new2magic » Apr 23rd, '07, 21:13

Well maybe anyway! Im Jordan, 26, returned from Afghanistan last year after 8 months shooting at Tali-babies, and am now a scuba diving instructor. Im origionally from the UK and was introduced to a TT trick by a friend of my fathers many years ago. I have had my own for a couple years and use it to swindle free beers at my local bar! Ive become quite good with it by now, and decided i wanted to expand my base a little. Ive been on ebay all week and ive picked up a couple new gimmicks including a flame tip, hummer card, lite flite illusion and a couple others. Got my flame tip in the mail today and im stumped. First off im left handed, and also I cant figure how to "close" the trick or really even how to perform it without exposing myself. Anyway thats me, how about you!!??

Hi Jay, welcome to TM.

If you're interested in gettting started it might be worth your while getting yourself a copy of Mark Wilson's Complete Course. It covers quite a few different areas of magic really well. :D

Welcome aboard Jay!

Ditto what Lady Of Mystery wrote, save your money and hold off buying tricks that need gimmicks ( for now ) and get a copy of Mark Wilsons Complete Course. Learn the basic sleights for cards, coins etc and you'll be away!

Also, I'm left handed and you'll find there will be a few tricks where you have to adapt the instructions to suit, although I actually perform most of my tricks with my right hand!

Another left-hander!

I echo the comments above regarding getting yourself some good books.
If you want a good gimmicked trick may I recommend Coin Unique or an ID. Both get a strong response.

Also go off and learn the true fundamental aspects of magic, go a buy a book which teaches the basics well, instead of just relying on gimmicks.

Try Royal Road To Card Magic and Bobo's Modern Coin Magic - Best place to start learn this art.

Buy the book "Royal Road to Card Magic". I know the old timers on this site will be bored but this is the bible for all card magicians. You will cherish this book in years to come as it provides a complete foundation in card magic and all the important shuffles, sleights and flourishes.

My advice is, take the steps in this book slowly so that you have time to digest it.

Welcome to TM. I wish I was one handed. I can only do certain moves with each hand. Sometimes it can be a pain being ambidextrious.
