You mean youve been a member for 3 years +, and you're not in the restricted section yet? WTF?

been there got the t-shirt.
some people seem to think that its the amount of posts that qualifies you for entry wereas its quality that gets you in.
so posting 20 welcoms a day won't make a diference it will just fill your inbox with posts to check

I knew about the *1000 posts will not necesarily grant you access to the restriced area* but I would have though nearly 4000 posts, and three years would have been enough. I might as well give up now.

origionaly there was going to be a set post for entry requirement but the system was abused by a lot of one liner posts, then there was going to be a mod interview but a big problem occoured when a certain children's entertainer could not answer a simple ish card question, i did get entry after a bit of negotiating.
add to that the explosion of members as talkmagic hit the big time that became unworkable, so my understanding was that the mods made a group descision based on quality of posts so one liner posting became redundant for the most part.

unfortunatly some newer members have either not read the rules thoughly or belived that post quantity still counted towards entry to the secret section so started making multiple welcome messages, which i choose to highlight in a none to subtle fashion when pm's apeared to be inefective.

the introduction section is a good idea but needs to be backed up with the additions to the age and status bit in the profile.
there now seems to be a marked drop off in multiple welcome postings and more gueniuine welcomes with comments that are diferent with each welcome.

Note from Mods:
Extracts from http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic1448.php :

1: Forget how many posts you've got. Even 1000 posts will not necessarily grant you access

2: The decision is NOT automated - it is discretionarily granted by a moderator

4: You're ….. up the wrong tree if you've read that 50 posts = instant access

and

2: Don't post countless meaningless messages
3: Try and write intelligent, concise reviews and replies. Show a general knowledge of magic.

Hope that helps!

Yeah, thanks.

I think the idea of MOD interviews would be good, but it would mean that none of them ever had a life again, with so many people.

Just by the way. You said you were 36 and retired. I want your old job!

dam foiled again.

no problem, must change the age to 37, you'll need to get some company who's already doing the business lecture circuit to stick you on the list and will have to be prepared to travel all over the country teachiong business men how to do simple magic tricks to improve there sales.
second you'll need to setup a site and hawk yourself around all the clubs and bars, scout and guide organisations, send out thousands of business flyers to anything remotly conected to entertaining in the local admarts and build yourself a disco rig (you can have mine for £500 incld special kids cd's).
magic you already have but you'll need a few classic kids effects too, then its sell, sell , sell your body untill you build up enough of a reputation you get the kids birthdays for each year till there a teenager.
a small amount of talant is required but most will be learn't on the job.

Wow,
Thats the most concise advice ive ever had about how to succeed in life. I may take you up on that offer in a few years. But dont hesitate to sell it if another offer comes along. I am currently only 15, and charging a little over 30 pounds for a 2 hours job, which tend to come around every few weeks or so. So 500 pounds is a little out of my reach for now. Thanks though for the advice.

All the best,
