disappearing cig

Postby ultimatecreate » Apr 25th, '07, 16:26

Saw a magician in Barcelona doing a disappearing cigarette using a t**** t**. Would this not destroy/ melt the gimmick? Same question with disappearing match.

Would it also blacken the end so it could be spotted from the outside?

Cheers,

A

I always put a tiny square of foil inside just in case.

Magicians back in the day used metal TTs that looked nothing like opposable digit they're supposed to replace. Gary Darwin used to use a red TT and get away with it just fine. Heck, my housemate (a black guy) has used my (a pale white guy) TT. I'm sure a little blackness on the end of yours won't make too much of a difference!

In all seriousness, though, it shouldn't burn through. Put either some tin foil or damp cotton in there and you'll be fine.

There is a bit of a dark mark on the inside of my TT after doing this but no one notices - just me!
It's good to do it with the specs coat. Good handling of this in Tarbell volume 1.

Hahahaha! No it wasn't me. That's the typical busker/scammer on Las Ramblas. Didn't you see three card montes, cups and balls scammers?

As it goes magicforfun I did! They appear and go so quickly and when they seperate they all bu**er off in different directions. I noticed one or two outside the crowd watching for police while 3/4 were stooges.

I actually managed to get a picture of the b***** doing it and almost got my throat slit afterwards "No * pictures!!" I managed to stop an English guy losing his cash but one Spanish teenager lost 100 euros!!

They were using three boxes and a white ball. Due to reaching the max filesize for attchments on this thread the picture can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-ADZ5Qyw6Q

When the pic is available I'll have a look. But that was taking a big risk taking the picture of the scammers. I would never do it. Once I was on Ramblas waiting for a friend and had a cups and balls stand (you know, the paperbox type, easy to gather and just leave when the police is around) just in front of me. I had a good 30 minutes to watch how the scammers work. Of course, I had to be very discrete. It's so obvious how they work, with 3-5 stooges, some of them "moonlightning" as lookouts. The stooges play to get people gathering around to see what happens. Then they tell someone to play. If the victim hesitates they give him like 10€ and tell him to bet another tenner himself. If they let him win and he wants to walk away he's surrounded by the stooges/thugs, and he is "invited" to bet again. It's a loose always deal. And it's incredible how people fall for it. I never never go no way near those guys. Las Ramblas is heaven for the hustler. So many people to fall for their "arts".

Tinfoil and wettened cotton wool are all good. However, if you are caught impromptu just add a piece of paper in. You are starving the cig of oxygen anyway and it will have been stubbed out.

I used to use my tt and lit cigs all the time without any protection and they were still good for a longtime. I normally scrounge a cigarette and then when I am near the end of smoking it I then sy that I will do a trick to say thank you and do the tt vanish.
