you could also pour the drink into a cup rather than on the floor!

i gather you're only after impromptu tricks that you can order from ellusionist here?
if not go and buy Banachek's PSI series, and have a pleasant suprise at one of the tricks!

(...waits for someone to say "anytime anywhere")

If you can handle a deck of cards, all your tricks can b impromptu. Rather than buying Ellusionist rubbish, why not buy a book of techniques.

I second that!

Have you noticed how many times we get back to the same piece of advice no matter what the specific question is? Get a book and practice. RRTCM...

If you are into mentalism, then Peter Nardi and Marc Spelmann have a good set of DVD's out at the moment called "The Unexpected"

There are some very nice anytime, anywhere pieces in there.

I actually haven't bought from ellusionist but from ebay but anyway..

My interest in magic is not as hardcore as most members here. There's no dedicated audience as such. I only do it when there's a lull in the social setting to keep the energy going.

Card tricks are good but I'm not going to be bringing a deck when I go out. Good during house parties though.

I'll check out the stuff you guys already listed. Thanks.

To be brutally frank, much of Ellusionist's stuff is to be found in books you can pick up very cheaply, hyped beyond all recognition, then sold at massively inflated prices.

I think you'd be best suited to Karl Fulves Self Working books if your not wanting to learn any proper handling techniques. You might also wanna try Theodore Annemann material, he also has books on cards and mentalism that could be of use to you.

Either that or you could learn to do the basic overhand shuffle with a few 'variations' on it. Then you could do a fair bit of impromptu tricks of your own invention.

Can anybody please help me? I'm having terrible problems controlling my streetmagic- I can't walk down a street without turning into a pub.

I would suggest that a good "impromptu" effect, is an effect that can be performed with whatever is readily available, and possibly borrowed. Cards and especially coins are always available - they transcend language barriers and evoke interest anywhere in the world. It is good to know of effects you can do with borrowed items: Napkins, handkerchiefs, keys, silverware, items that can be found on any dinner table, spectacles, bank notes, rubberbands, bottle caps, cigarette papers, etc.

There are effects you can perform with nothing but your body : finger tricks, controlling your pulse, etc.

The best place to learn these effects are in books, because there are so many and books can be the most cost effective way to go. One book can provide dozens of worthwhile effects.

Oh hell yes! Banachek does it on, um (brain suddenly goes blank) PSI 2, I think, pretty much as an aside as part of a far more valuable volume of strong effects. Mind Bender, if you look at the promo (or even the full thing) is meant to be an Earth shattering effect according to Mr Eyeliner, but you can actually stumble on it by accident on a beery pub table.

I love all of Gregory Wilson's stuff. I have all of his In Action DVD's and a lot of that is impromtu. Also his On the Spot DVD (with all impromtu magic) I've heard great things about. That is definetly on my to buy list. You can always learn a lot from him performing anyway.
