Are you talking completley impromtu, no set order to the cards e.t.c?

They were talking about this on a magic podcast called GoMagicGo, it's really good and is avaliable free on iTunes and so on. (I don't work for them!)

My favourite routine is probably:

1)Erdnase Aces (Jay Sankey) or just me cutting to the aces or A Poker puzzle from RRTM (nice to start with a self worker sometimes :P )

2)Dr Daleys last trick (with Greogry Wilsons "Weighted Aces" Presentation)

Then if they then really want another one

3)Biddle trick/Triumph (Of course it is union rules to have atleast one "pick a card" trick 8) )

How about you Shaneking?

You mean there are... normal packs of cards?

I only own one gimmicked deck--the Svengali deck--and I rarely use it as I bought it when I thought the Black Tiger decks were cool... FYI, they're not.

Ungimmicked packs, in my opinion, are the ONLY way to perform everyday magic. Tossed out decks, Mind Power, ID, and Nudist are all great for special occasions, but they're impractical for daily use.

Some effects I perform are:

--Ambitious Card, my hands-down favorite effect with an ungimmicked pack.
--The "Chicago Opener" from Daryl's DVD (requires an odd-backed card, though)
--Two card monte for all of the Blaine-atics out there (and there are many).
--Gemini Twins (Bill Malone's presentation)
--Anything on Bill Malone's On The Loose series is beautiful, as a matter of fact.

Paul Harris's Art of Astonishment has a lot of good effects, too.

Ciao,
Rob

Well I like to start with a four ace production controlling the aces (top, bottom, second to bottom) in a variety of ways.

Also, I have a trick that I don't know the name to, which does take a bit of time (usually done after the coffeees come out). The effect is:
I ask all the punters around the table to call out "Fire" or "Coal" and when I hear "fire" I put a card face down in the left pile. "Coal", and I put down on the right pile.

As if by magic, the left pile are then shown face up to be all red and the right pile to be all black ! (Regular deck, arranged..."nuff said"). By the way, I say "please don't shout -fire- out too loud or there'll be a stampede for the exits heh heh heh...

Also, the classic trick from RRTCM called "Poker Player's picnic"

I'm like Rob. i only own one gimmicked deck-svengali, and that is for ONE routine only.

i always carry around a pack of cards, because you can do so much with a normal deck.

monte routines
jumping gemini
biddle trick
card transpos

possibilities are endless

ACR is a definate, I will always use this as I believe it is the greatest impromptu trick you can do with cards.

My triumph routine that rocks

My card transpostions that are impromptu with no duplicates

Twisting the aces then after that I "loose" the aces and start producing them everywhere. poker hands and what not.

I usually go out and perform with only an ungimmicked deck of cards. Obviously I keep other things on me but cards wise, I only have ungimmicked decks.

A version of Topsy-Turvy cards using a hot shot cut to find the lost card in the deck, then leading onto an Ambitious Card routine before ending on shuffled deck version of Out of this World.

Rob,

Why is the Nudist Deck impracticable for daily use ?

I've used mine several times a night, several nights a week for over 15yrs.

Rob - so you're saying a stripper deck can't be used to perform everyday magic???

For me:

ACR
Twisting the Aces
Triumph
Beyond Fabulous
Degrees of Freedom or Eye of Stonehenge
Power of Poker
That's it
Guastaferro's Clairvoyance
Bobo's Higher Mentality
CAAN
Sankey's Graffiti
Chicago Opener

Harry's Great Escape/2 Gets your 1/Puddle Jumper (for kids)-Travelling X/Spelling Bee/Kabuki Queens/Cop Out/5 Cards on My Mind/CaKSAN - my own card effects

There's a lot more that I love doing - but that's enough for now I suppose.

This effect is known as "Out Of This World (OOTW) and is known as the trick that fooled Churchill (Winston) After he was late for parliment, so the story goes, having been delayed by insisiting on a magician perform it for him again and again.............. and again :P

See Derren Brown perform his version here
