psychokinetic touches

Postby paul frost » Sep 15th, '03, 17:17

Hi the_mog,
I first got hold of psychokinetic touches about 2yrs ago and wheni first read it I really thought NO WAY this will work and left it in the 'Magic Drawer' we all have to 'hide' our unwanted items.
Then I was visiting a friend in Boston and I saw Steve Shaw on tv doing this very effect...its looked soooo good. Once i returned home i practiced the effect and 2 weeks late i performed it...the girl involved was...scared whit-less... She swears even today its real....Now I love it....

Not its one of the effects Im asked to show most offtern.
If you like that type of stuf I think its worth the risk to buy it.

Paul

It's a lovely effect, very powerful and entirely propless. Just bear in mind that it isn't a do-anywhere sort of effect; you must do it with complete seriousness and maintain complete control over mood.

When the mood is right, it's an absolute killer.

I suspect that most people will be disappointed with PK Touches. But in the right hands it is sensational. Probably only suitable for an experienced performer with good spectator controlling skills.

Which included me - on first reading anyway! There's a timing element involved which isn't mentioned anywhere beforehand but needs to be dealt with and there's no denying it's a great idea and, in the hands of an ace presenter, it's extremely powerful. In the hands of anyone else it certainly isn't.

I suspect the timing principle behind the idea could be generalised and used for other effects, although I haven't seen it done yet.

PK Touches

Postby Sunny » Aug 11th, '04, 02:38

You may be interested in a similar effect/use of the concept, by Kenton Knepper in his recent manuscript 'Miraculous Ploys'. Timing is less crucial with this version than with Banacheck's, however no less skill is required in it's theatrical presentation.

Touches

Postby StreetMagic101 » Jun 11th, '05, 14:22

Do u really touch the person or is it really a mental trick, AND does it work every time??? Can u do it to an audience and not get caught?

Thanks, thinking of buying it.

Streetmagic01,

I cannot answer your questions in more detail since it would give the secret away, but it can be done surrounded by an audience and it "usually" works every time.

It takes a large amount of presentation experience and skill. You also need to be able to write your own personal routine for it. (This is again not recommended for beginners!) Rehearsal is difficult and you should at some point practice it with fellow magicians for whom you may risk to be caught.

I have not yet dared to perform it for lay audiences. Since I don't know your skill level, I cannot give you any recommendation ...

Done right, this effect can be a show stopper, Banachek was quick to write up and release his method and it does play very well.

They may be plans in the future for a book on PK touches... Wait and see.

Isn't this the trick Chriss Angel performed on the TV specail where a girl sat in a chair and felt three touches on her shoulder.
