Postby bananafish » Sep 16th, '03, 10:46

Does anyone have Jenest's No. 2 Pencil?

Movie clip hear: http://www.penguinmagic.com/product.php?ID=365

I'd love to hear what you think about it - can it be examined, is it value for money etc.

Thanks.

I keep looking at this one as I bought Mark's Jiggernaut routine and it's something I really enjoy doing. I was reluctant to get No2 as it sounds rather like 'just another' paddle trick. I hope I'm wrong and look forward to more info asap!

Mandrake, welcome back.

I have had some feedback on this - and the general concencus is not all that great. Apart from anything else there seems to be a little bit cut from the penguin video sequence at one point.

Guys

I think I've already told Bananafish about this effect, but due to brainfade I can't remember...

Advice:

1: It ain't as great as the Penguin demo makes out
2: It IS just another paddle trick
3: Only buy it if this really is your bag - it's not a self-working miracle and there's NO WAY I reckon you could do it to any more than 1 person at a time

For more info, feel free to drop into the realms of the Magi (wherever that is - the pub, usually...)

OK, I've seen the Pengiun demo and the effect really isn't very good at all!

Perhaps the 'missing' footage(inch-age?) could be covered in real life by placing the pencil in a pocket and bringing 'it' straight back out but I doubt this would be much of an improvement. Definitely NOT on my Christmas Prezzie list!

I would have to respectfully disagree. It is a paddle trick, yes, but with a very common (at least in The States) object. Therefore it is MUCH less suspect than all those funky colorful paddles and studded rods. It's a cute, fun effect, high-quality, great documentation, and well worth the asking price.

Well, I thought that from watching the video and things, but we ordered it at studio 9 and I spent a few minutes playing with it and really like it. If you don't have a paddle routine then this is the one to go for, if you do then you should perhaps think of changing it for this if it is not too different. We think 'oh yes, just another paddle routine' but you have to consider that a spec doesn't know a hot rod from a dream paddle (which is also very good by the way) so we should consider the routine involved. As far as I'm concernned now this is a really good one.
