For techniques I would recommend Ormond Mcgill's "The New Encyclopedia of Stage Hypnotism" although it doesn't have much on theory. But it has LOADS of techniques.

Even as a 'new boy' to TM I have discovered that hypnosis is a heated topic in these parts. :)

Much will depend upon how you wish to use the techniques and your own personality and performance type. More so than in other areas of magic it is your character which will have the most influence.

There are several schools of thought and methods which can be deployed and I will draw your attention to the current (reignited) thread within Miscellaneous which may be of interest to you.

Hi -

I am very new to this forum -
But I have been using self-hypnotism for years ... and I am about to be certified with the NGH here in the states.

I am not sure what you are looking for exactly. Reading and learning hypnosis from a book is a tall order. Not to say it can't be done, just that it will take more effort on your part.

Are you wishing to learn techniques? What do you hope to accomplish with it?

NLP Gurus tend to explain the techniques in a greater detail - Where as hypnosis Guru tends to be more intuitive in it handling of the same subject. NLP is probably easier to learn simply because there are more resources out there, many of them are free. So I would recommend you start there.

The best NLP book I have ever seen on it is ....
"Advanced Language Patterns" by Larry McLauchlin

You can only find it on the web I think and it cost $40. It is very easy to read.

Here is the website.... http://www.nlpandhypnosis.com/freenlp.html

Even if you don't buy the book -
DOWNLOAD THE FREE EXERCISES as they are a great intro and give you a good idea as what to expect from the book.

"Hypnosis" by David Elman would be a good intro to hypnosis.

Good luck! Hope it helped!

Ormand's book is a must. It has everything you need. Once you have read deeper and deeper by Johnathan chase. Deeper and Deeper is a more simplistic guide to the art. Read then re-read it then go in to Ormand you will understand it a lot better. Then to top it off I would read sleight of mind. But only after you mastred the basics.

Deeper and Deeper also has a lot of therorey and covers the legal aspects of putting on a hypnosis show.

Of couse the encyopedia has a lot more in it then Deeper and deeper. Then again its 3 times the price. But Deeper and deeper is an easy read and will ease you in to the art. Buy that first.

I am master of misdirection, look over there.

We are not falling out young Welshy, we are debating, I think farlsy is an idiot he thinks I am one. We are just talking about who is the bigger idiot.

If it's the working behind it, "Hypnosis and Trance Sates: A New Psychobiological Explanation" - by far the best explanation of hypnosis I have encountered, with the other recommended books it will give you a good understanding as to why and how it works, and what the hypnotic state exactly is.

It's contemporary research with plenty of empirical evidence and supporting studies, and only a fiver off Amazon. A MUST IMO.

That's about the fifth time I think he's posted that some post...look at his intro thread. Possibly something dodgy going on there, like advertising that book.

If you like hypnotism. I think Anneman has got some books on that subject.

I've not encountered them myself if he has, and I've read a lot of Annemann... although I may of course be wrong.

It is surprising however that you recommend books you have not even read...

I've actually skimmed through one of his books, it's called Anneman's Mental Mysteries. It's pretty good.

Well done. But there's no mention of hypnosis in it...

As I said, I just looked briefly through it. I thought it might contain something on hypnosis. Apologies for my mistake.

No problem, I just feel it's best to recommend something only if you know what's in it and feel it worth recommending

That said, Annemann is worth reading anyway, for the magic and/or the mentalism, whichever your persuasion is.`

Only the third, but I still feel the moderators should view his records.

Opps-

Yes- I did post the same thing a couple of times- No I have no vested interest in the book. Sorry.

I did a search on hypnosis on the forum and then was being lazy. I wanted to talk to someone and originally felt that some of the post were really old and not being watched. Will be far more careful in the future. Honest!

I also had some problems and didn't realize I actually posted a couple of those. Err. Kinda new at this.

Hope you can forgive me.
