My apologies for being annoying!

To be honest, even lecturing on such a subject is a bit much at the moment. Keep creating by all means, there are effects created by magicians of all ages. All you need is that flash of inspiration. But writing/lecturing on the psychology, presentation and creation of magic is a totally different ball park. I enjoy creting effects myself, but wouldn't dream of giving advice about this topic. We all have our opinions on how we think magic should be performed, and we share, debate and argue such things here all the time. Should we all write and lecture on this topic...I would say no. As only a few do/can. I feel you have to have built up some respect and a good reputation for people to take such advice on board. Otherwise how do you expect a magician to take on your ideas above the afformentioned authors (or their own in fact). Most magicians include their philosphy on magic within the effects and routines they write up (but wouldnt dream of writing/speaking solely on such a subject). Perhaps thats a happy medium. I haven't read your notes, so cant really comment on them.

You're absolutely right. I think I will just stick to creating magic.

I will definitely slow down with all of this. I am just SO excited about magic and want to make a name for myself in the magic world. I will just keep these notes to myself until I am more knowledgable and can write better and more in-depth about the subject.

That's a good idea Michael.

I think it is great that magic excites you so much, and I would like to think you can really make it big in the magic community. Whatever you do, don't stop writing the notes and coming up with new ideas but certainly sit on them for a while. At 14, your ideas will probably change on a daily basis for a long time yet. Read as much as you can. If the idea of magic theory fascinates you - I would recommend books by Darwin Ortiz or the Fitzkee book on Misdirection is another good one.

I would also recommend you joining a magic society as that will give you a place to talk about the art with other like minded people face to face. As you are in Canada I have no idea if there are any close to you, but I would certainly have a look.

The convention sounds fun as well. I am sure that will be amazing (I look forward to your reveiw :) ). I am in Canada in August - which is a shame, that would have been a huge bonus for me if the convention was on whilst I was out there (not sure my lovely assistant would agree though).

The best way you will make a name in magic is slow down, learn a little more, and wait until you are ready.

Shoving out every little thing which comes to mind is going to have a very negative effect.

And your hugely vebose replies are now something I personally just scroll past, as they are becoming infuriatingly annoying! (meant in a constructive way!)

Hello,

Sorry about the long replies, but I misunderstood someone's advice and thought they told me that if I am going to reply, it should be longer than 4 sentences. Turns out it is exact opposite.

Mike, you still haven't taken robstanley's advice and I think it's starting to bug everybody. You respond constantly to every single post that's put up. Just because someone posts something new doesn't mean you have to respond to it right away. You've really got to take a chill pill and slow down on the posts. You can't spend all your time on this forum.

It's not. I would consider a four-sentence post to be rather brief.

Michael Kras wrote:I am just SO excited about magic and want to make a name for myself in the magic world.

Just be sure that the name you make for yourself is one that you wish to keep, as it will stick with you.

My personal advice to you would be to calm down and take heed of what those posting before me have said; most have been involved with the 'magic world' since long before you were even a glint in the milkman's eye, and have reams to share on the subject. Just consider the following paragraph for a moment:

"For some reason our world has suddenly become inundated with a plethora of genus types; 14 and 15 year old kids that have been studying magic the past two to maybe five years, that think they are read enough and experienced enough to not just write and produce a book, but ask outrageous money for an electronic download of it. A small fortune for someone’s theoretical ideas; material that is not typically audience tested or properly worked out by testing. Not just by the innovator by his associates that work in the real world on a daily basis."

Now does anything in there sound just the tiniest bit familiar? If so, please take the time to read (yes, not write) the following essay by the wonderful Craig Browning:

http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic14907.php

I don't wish to sound too harsh, but you really do need to actually read what people are saying to you.

An interesting experiment for you may be to print this topic off and store it with your notes for a few years. I'm sure that, provided you are still interested in the art of magic, when you read through them again you will able to make much more sense of the views expressed here. At the moment it seems that the time people are putting into replying to and trying to help you is having little effect, so don't be too surprised if your next post or topic is not met with such a response as has been seen here.
