yeh don't click that, it was just someone wanting to know how it's done and throwing random theories at us. it was not the sensible and more polite question that yours was.
i can't say i know how he does it in the film, but after seeing that clip posted a few times a while back i made up a TT that allowed you to do the same effect, but i seriously doubt it's the same method. anyway, if you're after a gimmicked and horribly unclean version of how to do it i could steer you in the right direction.

I think it would be one of those non-descript manipulations that you can find in books about card flourishes. If you have any of those, you might just want to go over them, and if they don't have it, I'm sure some manipulation book would.

It's amazing what you can do with movie magic! I've seen people disappear, fly, dodge bullets, transform... And that was only in "The Matrix!" Sure... it COULD be done, but that card moves just a little too smoothly for me...

My favorite scene in that movie has got to be where Buddy finds out that his coat has been "tainted" by Hugo... Hilarious.

I really dont think its for sale, if even "real".

In all the books I have read, and all the people I have talked to and seen perform. I have never seen it performed.

But I am sure one could come up with a way. Just use your mind, creativity, etc.

Heck I just thought of a way.

Oh, it's a VERY real effect, and is stupidly easy to accomplish.

I'm a little staggered that as 'experienced' magi, people can't work this out for themselves!

Thanks for correcting me, I just wasnt sure. I can easily figure out ways to do it, not very complex at all.

You can even tell it wasnt CGI or anything like that.

I wasn't meaning my post to sound so pompous though so I apologise if it did. All I was implying is that the spin in Smokin Aces is/can be accomplished with such ease that there's no way on earth they'd need to use CGI or special effects.

Almost every discerning magish has what's needed available to them right now, and it's a doddle.

And quite good fun, actually!

Sometimes, it's best to THINK LATERALLY and SIMPLY.

If the effect can be achieved easily, then DO IT easily. :D
