Has anyone ever arranged a Talk magic get-together?..

Postby BeerForDolphins » Sep 24th, '03, 11:20

On a few of the other boards that I use, music ones usually, there are often arranged get togethers where usually huge amounts of beer is consumed and interests are shared...

....would anyone fancy that sort of thing here...

....almost like a "Talk Magic Super Secret Brotherhood of Magick"...where secrets are exchanged and techniques passed down through generations are taught to impressionable neophytes...

...we could be MAGIC NINJAS!!!!!!!!!!

............am I getting carried away? we just get together for a pint one night I suppose! :D

It's a cool idea, but logistically, we're quite geographically challenged.

One possible idea is to look ahead a few months to a large convention or lecture, and arrange a meeting there?

it may be true that some of us are geographically challenged......(shropshire...HA! :D )

.....well, for one, I tend to be out and about with work a lot in various parts of the country so if there any small localish groups that might be able to meet up, if I am in the area, I would be up for it...

I don't know any other magicians socially and the Middlebrough Circle of Magicians get together once a month (if that) so I am in a little bit of a magical void...thats my excuses anyway

Nothing wrong with Shropshire! (But, nothing RIGHT with it either!!!! )

If we consider that Mog is in Scotland and Yankee Tom is in Devon, a night on the beer is a LONG journey. It's a shame, really.

But a convention, where we had time to book hotels/B&Bs etc would be great!

Being a family man with young children (2 x 18 months, phew!) I find the forum here a blessing as I get the feeling of being part of a 'magic club' even though I physically couldn't go to one.

I would like the idea of a club where local members could meet and bring their families

One idea I have is that if some of the members who, like me, have family commitments and would like to arrange a get together we could post in the EVENTS section here suggestions of day trips or other types of meets to see who would be interested. What do others think about this?

nothing to do with being cool... i can just about remember when i was 15 and yes i did buy it but i was not cool or hip or trendy or whatever words you young'uns use nowadays *sigh* can remember when all this was fields... etc etc

ok it was a misplaced attempt at humour but in my opinion even the "uncool" 15 year olds in my hometown have bought the odd bottle of buckfast now and then...

And DONT smoke!!!.... i smoked for 19 years and am now a proud EX smoker and feel all the better for it

this ends a MOG health message...

remember... JUST SAY NO!!!... heh heh

...YOU CANT GIVE A BABY BOOZE!!!!!!!!!!

...seriously though, getting back to the opriginal thread. There must be situation where the good people amongst us must travel to other parts of the country. If that is the case it would be nice to try to get together at convenient times.

Next time I am stopping over anywhere i will let you all know...if I am local to anyone and they fancy a pint and a chinwag just drop me a line (can't say fairer than that)
