Not to offend, but I actually laughed out loud when I saw your card fan. Great effect though! Keep up the good work!

To comment on the actual levitation effect, consider these points:

1.) WHY does the card float? Is it static electricity? Is it made out of some alien material? Make up some sort of plot for the effect.

2.) Why do you need to slip a card behind the first to "prove" that there's nothing there? Won't your finger do? Heck, use your whole hand and you can even avoid the "gimmick" (if that's what you want to call it).

3.) When you finish the effect, why do you show your hands empty? Wouldn't that mean that there was in fact something there before? It's superfluous. Why call attention to the fact that you could be using wax? Wouldn't that mean it could be stuck to something? If it's really floating, wax wouldn't matter; the card could be covered in wax for all that matters.

Hope these help,
Rob

Manual dexterity has nothing to do with the thought process behind making up tricks. Yes his fan is not good and he should strive to improve it (I expect it's partly due to the cards he is using) but I don't like how you are telling him not to make up his own tricks. Yes, his tricks aren't very good, I think he would be better off reading a few books first to get the idea of what an effective magic trick looks like, but I wouldn't say to him "don't come up with any tricks yet".
