Did you post recorded? You may/should be able to track down the package through Royal Mail??

First of all, wait. Sometimes things get delayed in the post. Keep up comms with your buyer though explaining things.
If it was sent recorded then you are covered. If not, you can still claim through royal mail, though it takes a while before you can start the process of claiming (because of the reason I stated at the top).

Yup - seconded; whether I'm looking to seel something either on here or eBay, I always insist that it gets sent via Recorded Delivery.

Sadly, your buyer isn't responsible if the Royal Mail screw up....although the liability isn't technically yours either, you have his money and he has...well...nothing!

Unless you can reach a compromise of some kind, I'd advise you to reimburse your buyer (give it a week or so first, to see if it's merely been delayed, rather than lost completely).

Not doing so is likely to lead to two issues cropping-up:

1) Your buyer will possibly post on here, amking everyone aware of what's happened

2) Your buyer (if he paid with PayPal), may well file a complaint, which will lead to them either recovering the monies from your account or freezing your account.

Neither option is a good position to be in...sometimes, it's just best to learn from the experience, and accept that you're going to be out of pocket this time :(

This may not be a good solution, but it may work. If the package has indeed been lost and neither of you will ever see it again :( , perhaps you could give him half of his money back and keep the other half. That way you each lose a little bit, but neither of you comes off entirely losing something. It's not that great, but maybe your buyer will understand it as a compromise.

Dont think he would be happy with that. I know I wouldnt be happy paying for something I hadnt recieved. To me, that wouldnt seem like a compromise at all. And if it was sold through ebay, you are bound by a contract anyway.
So to be honest, your only option is to wait a short while, and if no joy give him his money back. Then follow up the loss with royal mail on your side. You do have a certain amount of cover with them.
Did you keep the receipt from the post office? Not the payment receipt, but other one which they write the destination post code on? That is your proof that you sent it, and will need it to claim.

...then there are those people who claim not to have received what they have! :( The only solution to that is ensuring items are always sent recorded or requiring a signature of some sort upon receipt. Unfortunately such people are usually not stupid enough to repeat their tricks with the same people so don't get exposed.

I would say that there is more likelihood of Royal mail being at fault having had several orders from different places over the years not materialise; again, the same advice re recorded delivery etc as that will at least get you some compensation. You may be lucky, there are tales of post turning up weeks, months and even years after posting!

Does look as if you my end up out of pocket on this one. :(

Hi guys,

I would like to add my 2 pence worth as it was myself who's item never showed up.

Firstly i dont blame the seller, never have done or never will do! ( not the first time this has happened to me!)

The only people to take the blame should be royal mail, but we all know this is not going to happen!

I have been in touch with revoice and are trying to sort out some sort of agrement, as personally i dont think its fair for him to fully refund me due to sombody elses fault.

No hard feelings!!!

Matt

I am in a similar situation, although a little different.

I posted off a package abroad to a TM member, only to find that almost 3 weeks later no package, but have found out that there has been a postal strike in that country!! The thing is.. the package was a big one, and was for quite a hefty sum.. ! Im just hoping and praying it gets to him!!

Can't you guys insure your packages? In the states, we can put insurance on the package and if it is lost or destroyed, then it is paid for - nobody loses as per se (sure, you lost, you didn't get what you wanted, but no money is lost).

Mike.

When you post something in the UK (normal first class delivery) you are automatically insured for about £30-40. When you send it they give you a reciept on which they write the delivery address. This is what is needed incase something goes wrong. If your package is worth more than the said ammount, you either have to insure the item, or be willing to take the risk and lose your money if it doesnt arrive.
Having said that, if the item is worth more than that, then just include the extra P + P in the cost. If the buyer refuses to pay the extra, then you either dont sell, or they take responsibility if it doesnt arrive.

So why can't you get your money back since the package has obviously been lost in the mail?

I think the problem here is the fact that revioce (or anybody else on here apart from a few exeptions) is not an actuall trader, if i was buying from a dealership i would fully expect a refund, as we are buying and selling through trust with member of TM i think its a different matter, hope you understand this.
