Winning at poker

Postby LeftEye » Jun 2nd, '07, 20:28

Recently, I have become increasingly interested in the moves associated with cheating at poker. The false shuffles and dealings, muckings and all the others are pricless information. I can't stop thinking of ideas with what to do with moves like these.

I have Weapons of the Cardshark, Mucking hard moves made Easy and Expert at the Card Table.

Is most of the information obtained from these products or are there more techniques out there? If so where can I find them?

I tried searching but nothing returned. And no I don't cheat at cards for money  much

I'm not using them to cheat though. Would never even dream of it, but the sleights you learn are so usefull and if they can fool magicians, lay people have no chance

But seriously I would never cheat to win money, they are just genuiinly useful sleights

Sal Piacente's Poker Cheats Exposed is worth checking out. I haven't bought it, but I emailed him and he told me that it is quite possibly the best DVD on the subject to date. He works as a Casino Consultant and teaches the staff how to spot cheaters etc. So it can't be bad. However, it has a hefty price tag.

LeftEye, I think you're forgetting something that you yourself posted.

I picked up some moves just from watching this video.

Ahh yes, but I was looking for it to be taught. Thanks for pointing it out though Monker. It's great watching it again :)

Wow, that John Scarne video is incredible! That's what I aspire to be: an expert card manipulator. That flourish he did with the cards on his arm was fantastic as well.

The flourish on the arm is actually prett easy to do. CCM has it and some variations on it. I never thought it was practical, though.

I suppose not. Still looks cool though.

Wow, reading a little about John Scarne, he's almost exactly the sort of magician I want to be. I want to focus on cards, mixing XCM, magic and gambling tricks to portray myself as a 'card sharp' of sorts. But by the sounds of it I need a little more practice before I reach his level. :P

LeftEye,

I have sort of geared my presentations and manipulations to the gambling arena as well. There are a great number of sources out there, but Expert at the Card Table is definitely the place to start. A lot of the other "moves" are vaiations or adaptations of the moves in that book.

In terms of other sources, Richard Turner has one solely on bottom dealing; he also has another one called Shifts, Hops and Magic Passes. If you can get your hands on a copy, Andrew Wimhurst's "The Card Artistry of Andrew Wimhurst" is an excellent source not only for moves, but also for a killer routine. Also, although his presentation style is not to my liking, Martin Nash has some really good material on gambling sleights.

Let me know how it's coming for you. Right now, I'm working on perfecting the overhand stack. I've got it pretty smooth, but it's not there yet. :x

I have to admit i've been tempted to do a few false shuffles during a poker game. I tend to find that because my poker buddies know i dabble in card magic they watch me closer when i deal. I've never been caught out (yet!!).

It rarely helps me win I must add. I am a terrible player. I do it mainly to practice such shuffles whilst under scrutiny so see if i can get away with it. It's quite a buzz. Instead of dealing myself good cards I find it easier to deal others not so good cards.

Am I going to Hell?

The short answer is 3 letters long, and not 2...I'm sure you can work that one out!
