Im putting my review here because when I tried to post it in the 'reviews' section I got an error message saying only moderators can post there. Mods feel free to move this in there if you want to :)

The first event of the night was the tour. The building is really amazing (if difficult to find lol). It is on the first floor above and behind a shop. The entire building leans to one side which is noticable from inside. There are some amazing features here including a massive 3 panel stained glass window from the early 1900s and an ornate carved wooden chair which is said to have healing powers. You can also handle a wooden statue that apparently flew off the mantle piece and hit a Frightnights researcher on the head!

After that, there is a buffet in a small dining room. The ceiling of this room is painted, much like the style of the Cistine Chapel and is original except for the centre piece (which has a very interesting tale....) The buffet meal was good. I informed them that I am vegetarian and was well catered for :D They had tea, coffe and juice on offer as well as wine, which I appreciated (as a coffee-holic :D )

Paul and Martin both gave tarot card readings in this room. My reading was with Paul. It was very accurate, although I wish they'd used a different room so that the sitter had more privacy.

The magic tricks Paul did were mostly classic magic effects. Im glad to see people still enjoy them. The fork bending was a suprise, given the context of the other effects and was the most amazing trick he did (according to my mum). Among the effects used were out of this world and a spectator cuts the aces (using only the black aces). There was also a routine with esp cards where the spectator picks a face down card, followed by the magician and this is repeated 5 times. When the cards are turned over each card matches the relevant card in the other pile.

The last thing on the itinery was the seance. First there were a few (successful) attempts at glass moving (like a ouija board, without the board itself). After that was a seance where all the participents held hands around a table. In the centre was a glow in the dark ball. ALthough it did't move lots of other spooky things happened :)

I'd give this event a definate thumbs up and I'm looking at going to another event like this at the same venue. 9/10!

Thanks for this, Events is the best place for it as Reviews are now split into the various subsections of tricks and routines which is why the old 'Reviews' section is locked against any new posts.

Thanks for the plug lozey

For anyone interested we are also running an "open day" on Saturday 21st July between 10am and 4pm. Entrance fee is £10 (I think) and you get a tour of a genuine haunted house plus a tarot card reading with yours personally.

Perhaps another day lozey. We're holding more open days on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th July. Pop along and say "hi!"

Are you holding any open days in August or September?

Just a quick reminder that if anyone wants to pop along to Otherworld at 35 Stonegate at York (opposite Little Betty's cafe), I'll be doing tarot readings there from 10am - 4pm (ish) on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th.

Let me know you're from TalkMagic & I'll even make you a nice cup of tea and give you a "masterclass" on the cards while I do your reading.

They'll be doing ghost tours inside the house as well, so there'll probably be an old woman outside in Victorian dress trying to drum up business. Hope it doesn't rain!

The full event is being held again on Friday 14th September. Why not come and join us? We do magic, hunt ghosts, and feed you. Sounds like a Friday night to me! :D
