Actually in some ways Houdini and DB are very similar, in that they both knew/know that suspense is the key.

Houdini remember used to escape the milk churn and the sit around behind the screen having a fag - reading the paper whilst everyone thought he was drowning. DB - really played on the suspense with his own pregnant pause after he fired at the punch bag and it (mistakenly) fired a blank.
