I reckon I am probably a strange one to your boards.
I am actually a practising witch... Meaning I believe in real magik and see it happening. The reasons I am here are many, mainly because my other interests would be greatly helped with certain magician skills.

I have an opinion that some magicians take their tricks so close to breaking the laws of reality that they actually do cross over... but that is maybe controversial so I will keep it to myself mostly.

I am also a martial artist... which leaves little time for work, which i fit in anyway... which leaves little time for my partner for whom I am sometimes always there for and otehr times unavailable... thats me in a nutshell.

Welcome. Some of the people here can probably convince people that they utilize real supernatural abilities if they were inclined to. If you came to discuss the "real" magic aspect of the title "magic", I think you'll be disappointed here. We discuss sleight of hand, gimmicks, mentalism (which is where the line seems to blur between trickery and "real magic" for many people) and the occasional magic theory.

From a personal standpoint, let me just tell you this; people's interpretations of effects with very silly methods is surprising. I think people who feel that witchcraft and wizardry are possible should sit down and think everything through sober and critical. They need to realize that people believed in ridiculous things in the past and recorded them as fact. Those records are unreliable.

If you want to read about some serious experts on "witchcraft" type things, I suggest "Behind the Scenes with the Mediums" by David P. Abbott. If you can understand how powerful and convincing his performances were, you'd see why people believed in the supernatural a hundred years ago.
Good knowledge on something called "Cold Reading" is also useful. Sylvia Brown gets away with sloppy cold reading because her viewers/followers see he as genuine.

P.S. I hope I didn't type all that for someone's idea of a joke.

Currently Reading "House of Mystery" (Abbott, Teller), Tarbell, Everything I can on busking

Well at any rate, Welcome to TalkMagic!

I have to agree with sleight though... you might be a little dissapointed if you are looking for spiritual books on witchcraft etc.
However - you may find some performance books useful?

Just a thought;

It's always good in my opinion to have a view from a different perspective so yes, this will potentially be intertesting so welcome to TM.

As a practicing witch are you talking about white magic?

Tell me, is there white and black magic tricks?

I am sure this forum is not the place for such discussion so forigve me, but in the interest of sharing - it is not possible to divide magik in such a way. Lets just say that I do what I believe to be right, whether people consider it black or white is for them to decide.
I personally dont trust anyone who claims to be a white or a black witch.

It's not an area that many will understand on here (including me as you will have guessed through the question :? ) and we have in the past had at least one other who referred to themself as a 'white witch'.

Tell me, is there white and black magic tricks?

For us, the answer is no. Our illusions and trickery can be presented in different styles in order to achieve a certain sense of mystery, ambiance etc.

What we generally refer to as magic will, I assume be far different to what you class as magic and that our art is something that you will see as trickery and illusion.

Could make an interesting conversation

Greetings ,

To quote the great Anton LeVey “There is no such thing as black magic” and he ran the church of satan of all things.

First things first my good man welcome to TM I don’t usually welcome people so consider your self very special indeed.

Secondly our magic on the whole is all about lies. I once convinced a girl she had ESP she didn’t I had some special cards. Although I do understand a bit about esoteric religions such as Thelma and Wicca (good old Mr Sanders) I don’t think our two magic’s can combine. Then again if you are in to both more power to your elbow squire and I hope you find something useful amongst the many post here. If you know where to look there are tricks performed with tarot cards , pendulums etc I my self do a few things with them.

None of us here are claim to be able to really read minds. Most of it is applied psychology and sleight of hand amongst other things. But I do hope you stay and we can see your view on things.

Blessed be.

I am master of misdirection, look over there.

We are not falling out young Welshy, we are debating, I think farlsy is an idiot he thinks I am one. We are just talking about who is the bigger idiot.

Does this mean you're gonna use magic effects to emphasise your abilities in magik?

That's a bit Uri Gellar if you ask me!

I do intend to use magic effects to enhance my martial arts, or atleast to make it even more enjoyable for me.

But the things I do in magik are not for spectators anyway. It will be handy, because when someone finds out about my spiritual path they almost always think I am magician. If I am not in the mood to explain to them then I will be able to say yes and leave it at that. But magi kand magic are completely different in my mind...
Mostly. I still reckon some of the mindblowing tricks involve a bit of cheating. lol.

That's just it. Almost ALL of 'our' tricks involve cheating! But (usually) we don't try to pass it off as real psychic powers (ie. Uri Gellar!).

Sorry, meant to say 'welcome to the boards' in my last post. I've read it back, and it looks like I've punced on you! Haha =oP

Well, at some level, everything's a kind of trick, even consciousness itself. There's only a real problem when someone either doesn't know how something actually works (or insists on not knowing), fills in their own interpretation of what they'd like to be the case, and then tries to make life decisions based upon that lack of knowledge. Or worse still, gets other people to make life decisions based on that lack of knowledge. What's downright ugly, as Symtal has intimated, is when someone knows the truth but insists on something else being the truth despite the curtain having been pulled back long ago.

Me, I'd rather know, because knowing leads to applications.
