Recomended card magic DVD's?

Postby Maney » Jun 21st, '07, 13:52

I'm looking to get some DVD's and I'm after some recomendations. I've got the royal road to card magic book but I have a little difficulty visualising things (and being left handed doesn't help so much). Are there any good DVD's people can recomend? I've currently got "Born to perform" by Oz Pearlman (I think thats what he's called anyway) but I'm looking for some others.

Any recomendations?

There are many threads about this. But have a go on the 5 DVD RRTCM which together with the book will keep you busy for a considerable amount of time. The best way to learn. There's a 4 DVD RRTCM as well, but apparently from all the comments in the forum you should definitely go for the 5 DVD. Also, Daryl's Encyclopedia of Card Tricks is very good.

I think most of the Sankey releases are great for people who have mastered the contents of Born to Perform.
Most of sankeys material is simple, visual and direct.

If you wish to stick to cards I would go for revolutionary card magic but please make sure you can do most of the core slights on BTF first.

Sankeys RCM has loads of effects, many are gimmicked or prepped but most are great ideas and easily achievable with a bit of practice.

If looking for a dvd full of sleights then Sankeys 45 is great. It isn't just cards though but a collection of 45 sleights, taught with no speech; just slo-mos.

To clarify, it's not Encyclopaedia of Card Tricks but Encyclopaedia of Card Sleights. It's 8 DVDs and it is excellent. If you are looking for card tricks specifically you'll probably want to look elsewhere.

Hope it helps

Thanks, you're right Martin. Just wrote from the top of my head as I don't have the dvd's in front of me.

Go for the 5-DVD RRTCM set. From my own experience I can tell you that it is extremely good and will give you a very solid basis (though not just that) for card magic, both the sleights and the performance.

Cool cheers, been looking around and its pretty expensive, are there any places I can pick it up cheap or second hand? I dunno if theres anything like that for magic stuff :D

Also toying with looking at coin magic as a secondary thing, I hear that A Complete Introduction to Coin Magic by Ammar Card is worth a look. Is that right or are there better DVD's for it?

I echo the sentiments regarding the 5 disc RRTCM but also recommend 2Faced by dave forrest. Some great effects on there using gaff cards (which come with the dvd) for all skill levels. Quantam Leap is a favourite of mine off that excellent disc.

I believe Roth and Sankey are both good DVDs for coins.

I am particularly fond of Michael Ammar's Easy to Master Card Miracles. I have the first three volumes and many of the tricks featured have worked their way into my repertoire. Ammar is a great teacher.
