Hi every one.

I’m a bit new to magic i have been doing tricks for the past 2 months or so, but i seem to have used up all the free resources i can find.

I was looking for a book or even dvd that could teach me basic forces and slight of hand, does any one have any suggestions on what to go for?

Well your about to be bombarded with people telling you to buy the Royal Road to Card Magic. It's the beginners guide to card magic.

Or if you have enough money, get Card College by Roberto Giobbi. This is more in depth with easier to understand instructions for card magic.

Other things people will say is to ask you to make an introduction in the introduction forum and that you posted this in the wrong section and would probably be suitable for the Support and Tips.

Alternatively, you could search for your question as it has been answered hunderds of times.

But forget all that and Welcome!

Born to Perform DVD would be a good place to start.

I recommend Card College, if you have the money.

Otherwise, born to perform is a good place to start, fairly cheap too. But defiantely get a book. Royal Road if you want to keep costs down.

Then after Royal Road, expert card technique

Reading: Nothing right now
Studying: loving band redemption
Performing: Speechless, Stand up Monte, Coinvexed,

I say NO TO BOOKS!
This is the age of DVD and home cinema!

I've never bought it but Born To Perform always gets reccomennded, and reading reviews on it seems like a good buy :)

Saying no to books is a big mistake. Your loosing a lot of information. Thats your loss. 8) The serios magician will always rely on books.

Everything taught in Born To Perform can and is found in numerous books. So I am one of the people that say.. dont buy it... in my opinion it is a waste. I wish I had never bought it. Thus why I sold it.

That I can understand. I never read the books in school. Only one chapter from each... still passed with an 80.

But dont let that put you off from magic books. Your missing out so much information. But whatever. Spend your 30-50 bucks on just a few tricks.
I will spend the same amount and get awhole lot more info. 8)

My view on the DVD vs Book debate:

RRTCM, Expert Card Technique & Art of Astonishment.

How many DVD's would you need to match the quality and quantity of the above?

Can anybody please help me? I'm having terrible problems controlling my streetmagic- I can't walk down a street without turning into a pub.

But can anybody honestly say they have/will use all the information in these books. I can't say they're c*** (not the best) because I don't own them, except for RRTCM, which was c*** (not the best)!

I often find that lots of information overwelms (sp?) you, and you try to many things at once etc.

Too much information is a bad thing - I agree with you Mikey.

But, the books that Wills has suggested comes to, about, $50.00. To get the same information on DVD, you'll be looking at thousands of dollars.

Then dont do that... learn to take your time. I have had RRTCM for over a year... and I am still working with it. I take my time, learn and get donw one thing at a time.

Personally I don't get overwelmed anymore. That went away a long time ago, during the days of free tricks on the internet

But, I personally prefer to hunt down effects and add them to my list of to gets.

It's what ever floats your boat at the end of the day :)
