What effects have you just added to your repotoire?

It's always a buzz when you nail a new effect and perform it for the first time.
This week I have perfected Quantam Leap from 2WOfaced. Great response every time.

I got twisted palm reading to work recently.

I'm hoping I can learn the raise rise move so I can do "Deep Thought" (Art of Astonishment, Book 1). But that's far from happening at the moment.

Currently Reading "House of Mystery" (Abbott, Teller), Tarbell, Everything I can on busking

Is that Twisted Palm from 7 deceptions?

It's not an easy one to pull off and it's down to presentation if I recall.
did you get a good reaction?

Torn by Daniel Garcia and I've been improving my coin work with some material from David Stone's DVDs

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

Not a whole lot. I've been refining (sp?) the effects I already perform.

However, I made up some nice new patter to Red Hot Mama a few days ago. It goes well with my generic performances. I pretend to read there mind, but then come clean. I ask if they are familiar with the fact that card cheats mark cards. I then say it can be very easy to spot marked decks, so I just mark one card, very subtle, but obvious enough for me to notice. I then say it just so happens they chose the only marked card in the deck.

Then reveal the red card, which is there's. You can probably imagine the rest yourself :)

Most magic dealers sell Art of Astonishment. Try this one: www.magictricks.co.uk

I don't have those books, but I have the first six Tarbell ones and all I can say is GET THEM!

So much good stuff in there for any level an covers cards, coins, ropes, sponge, cups an ball, escapology, mentalism, stage illusions, billiard ball manipulation. Most of the best stuff I've learnt has been from Tarbell and RRTCM.

I recently got James Brown card opener from Still Fancy a Pot of Jam to a level I'm happy with. Took me ages mind you but to be fair, most of that time was spent learning the hot shot cut.

It was definitely worth it though as I think its one of the best 'show me a trick' routines.

Can anybody please help me? I'm having terrible problems controlling my streetmagic- I can't walk down a street without turning into a pub.

Ellusionist  . I live in California and the shipping is cheap (and fast) to my house and the book set wasn't E produced. It's about 110 dollars. And no, I suggest getting the Tarbell course unless money is an issue.

Lord Freddie, yes, it's the one from 7 Deceptions. The girl already felt a playing card jump from her mind to mine (don't lie to make me look good  . She felt a "tingling" sensation and recoiled- while my hand was 5 inches above hers!) and witnessed my pulse stop. She felt another random person's pulse stop. I figured it was worth a go.

Im mainly re-reading Art of Astonishment volume.1 to find some things that look interesting. So far i've found a couple although cant recall their names off the top of my head.

Ive also got some of the stuff on 'Still Fancy a Pot of Jam?' down to a level where i may nearly be comfortable in performing.

I was born with Multiple Personality Disorder. Luckily, they are all me, they just dont always get along...

Went to spend the weekend with a couple of friends, the drinks started flowing friday night, mentioned I was doing some magic as they noticed me fiddling with coins a lot, so they pulled out a deck of cards and told me to show them a trick (as they do) the girl, jo, is a great spectator as she wants to believe in magic, is easily impressed and it's very easy to use misdirection on her. Her boyfriend Dom is more of a pain as he was constantly burning my hands and telling me he knew how it was done (until i showed him how to actually do a simple trick, he tried, failed miserably, and then shut up :) )

Despite the alcohol, and everything else, i successfully managed to perform (and entertain) with card to mouth, the first time i did it and it worked perfectly :) then, using a lot (and i mean a lot!) of misdirection to make up for my lack of p****ng skills, did an extremely funny card to forehead, and then followed up with a simplified version of twisting the aces and finished by changing the aces in her hands to kings :)

They were impresed, and I was very happy and pleased, as this is the first or second time ive ever performed any of these to actual people. Feels good and a great confidence booster

It's a good feeling when you pull off some of the more involved effects to
difficult specs. It's also a good buzz when the more mouthy ones are left speechless!
Been practising some flourishes at the weekend. Making cards spin into the air,etc from Tarbell Volume 2. Some of them seem difficult at first, but it's suprising who you can nail something after an hour or so's solid practice.
Also re-read the Himber Book Test and trying to find some twists of my own to add to it. It's a good method.
