Forcing Die/Dice

Postby Carl Buck » Jun 26th, '07, 20:52

Hi,

does anyone know where I can get a professional looking forcing die? I've had a quick look around the usual magic suppliers and can't seem to find one!

Thanks

There's 'No Chance' by peter Nardi and Marc Spelmann (though I dont know where the original principle comes from). Its on my list of things to get.

Do you want it to force a number (like a loaded die) or avoid a number? I've made a few that don't look too bad, and I can give you some simple instructions if you'd like.

cards4magic do some loaded or misnumbered dice - have a look at http://www.cards4magic.co.uk/acatalog/copy_of_Dice.html and scroll about three quarters of the way down.

Thanks Rob! I want it to avoid a number, so I can try a variation of Max Maven's Just Chintz!

I tried making my own but it looked like a school project..

Then 'No chance' is exactly what you need for this.

I made mine right before watching "Nothing" :P

If you use a sharp, pointed knife, you can slowly and deliberately make nearly perfectly circular holes in the die. I used a white die with embossed holes and a black sharpie to fill them in. To this day, it hasn't been spotted. Just use the knife sort of like a drill bit (twisting the tip into the die) until you start to get a small hole. Then you can use the blade to scrape in a continuous circle until you get a hole the size of the others. Since no one suspects a gaffed die, they really won't be looking too closely. If you want to be extra cautious, you can switch it with a gambler's sort of switch and hand it out for examination at the end, but I like to keep my performances as uncluttered as possible, and that's just one more thing that could potentially go wrong.

Ciao,
Rob

Just to say I've just received the forcing dice set from The Card Collection (cards4magic.co.uk), and it's very nice.

£3 gets you a "no-4" die and one that is properly numbered but otherwise identical.

This is less than their minimum order requirement, so you have to find something else to buy at the same time.... this is a good thing!

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

Magic-Ian...

I was wondering when I'd be able to share this quaint little gem of an independent craftsman with you all:

Highland Games!

Several different kinds of "dodgy dice", with little leather cases if you so desire, and of course regular dice to match.

Hope that helps :)
