Well, there I was happily paying my £40+ per month for my phone, TV and internet package, month after month :? . I was at my dad's yesterday and I noticed a recent bill he had from Virgin and it was less than mine (even though he uses the phone alot more than we do). He told me that he was on a £30 per month deal that Virgin are offering at the mo  .

Well, I was straight onto the phone to enquire about this deal. I found out that I can "upgrade" to this package so I now get:

120 TV channels, instead of the 80 or so I was getting.
2MB broadband, instead of 1MB.
Free weekend calls (I had zilch before !!).

.... all these extras for less money  .

Basically, if you don't ask, you won't get "upgraded", so check your Virgin Media package and see if you're entitled to these extras, at a reduced cost.

This kinda thing really winds me up, when I've been a loyal customer of Virgin/NTL and whatever else they were previously called, for quite a few years and they just take you for a ride for every last penny that they can squeeze out of you  .

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

I work for Virgin Media. I can sort those 'upgrades out for you ' and maybe extra..!! You shoud have come to me moonbeam

With deals changing all the time and around 6 million customers, and the fact most people throw the 'junk mail' away, its hard to let everyone know.

The junk mail you threw away probably told you you were elegible to upgrade but you probably thought there was a catch and sinbinned it!!

For example I could have given you

Line Rental
Free UK calss 24/7
160 channels
2mb BB

for £30... but you cant get that if you call in..

Virgin Media don't have my hotmail email address so any correspondence would have to have been sent to my NTL.com addy. I don't hardly receive any mail at that addy, so to be honest, I think I would have remembered receiving an email off Virgin. Oh well ... sh*t happens lol  .

By the way, I'm only telling people that they should check whether they'd be eligible for this upgrade - I have no hard feelings towards Virgin (GRRR .... why didn't I find out earlier lol ).

Don't forget that they've just started charging 25p per minute for any calls to them + 10p connection fee.
They've also just started capping the broadband with ridiculous restrictions.

I'm considering going somewhere else after about 7 years of custom.

nop they havent. Its 25p per min to the bb tech help line. everywhere else is freephone.

The broadband has no restrictions.. its a fair usage policy. Which means that if you download ridiculous amounts ie: using it like a server, then it can affect your download speed. On the broadband side, no other company compares to cable, ill give it that much

 You really do work for Virgin, don't you.
Fair Usage? I don't think it qualifies as that. http://www.top10-broadband.co.uk/news/2 ... wnloaders/

Like I.D. said, calls to Virgin Media are free - just dial 150 from a Vigin phone  .

I've been with VM (previously ntl) for Donkey years and was one of their first dial up internet subscribers - I think that I've only ever had to phone them about twice each year for one thing and oantoher so their 25p calls is not an issue to me, although as you have correctly said, it's for their BB support and I suppose thatyou do get a whole load of plebs phoning up with problems.

Anyway, I'm currently enjoying free VM as I was mis-charged £150 for services that I didn't receive (BB upgrade) so when that credit runs out I'll definately PM you for a deal as I'll be moving at a similar time and will want to transfer.

I.D. I'm not having a go at you but is it me or is Virgin Media's faults department a bit, well c*** (not the best)?

My V+ box is riddled with problems.... it freezes, I can't delete series links, failed recordings, On demand with no sound or picture, time sets itself incorrectly at random times, buttons don't respond etc etc etc

Add to this that frequently the signal is lost completely with Broadband and the TV I decided to log all the problems with dates and times.

I phoned the faults team and they apologised and scheduled an engineer to come on 20/06/07 between 8am-12pm. I was at work so my girlfriends mum waited in for someone to turn up and no one did! I called Virgin straight away and they said no one had actually been scheduled!!

The person apologised and I listed out my problems yet again and she said ok this sounds like a problem with your box and the next available date is Saturday 23/06/07 between 8-12 and if I needed to change the date give them a call.

As it happens I did need to change it so I called on 21/06/07 and said I need to change the date. The guy on the phone said "Oh the engineer has been cancelled anyway!!" Now What if I never phoned??! I would have been waiting around between 8-12 and wasted 4 hours!! Bear in mind this already happend on 20/06/07!!
I asked why and he said there was a fault in the area and thats why he had been cancelled!

I asked about the fact that I was told that from my list of problems that there is likely to be a fault with the Box! In my mind I still need an engineer dispite there being a fault in the area (this is a seperate issue surely?). The guy wasn't having any of it!

So I phoned again and asked for an explantation! As far as I'm concerned I'm paying for the XL package with V+ and it doesn't work properly. She told me that NO engineer can come out to me and wait a week. I said about waiting in for an engineer if I hadn't had called she said "well we can't call everybody"! And re-iterated in a non-friendly manner "THERE IS A FAULT IN YOUR AREA!"

What topped it off for me was last Saturday the signal was completely lost during Doctor Who!!!!!!!!!! I was not a happy bunny!

What a joke! It's still not sorted and don't know what to do apart from write a letter of complaint!

Any ideas?

We've been with NTHell, now VirginMedia, for years and despite customer service at one time being non-existent with endless queues the products and prices have been fine.

We have had problems with the TV channels and set-top box playing up and even though we never watched Sky I did take the opportunity to complain at the time (even though I supported the Virgin stance I did not like being charged for something i could not access). At the time i was offered a £30 per month deal with unlimited 24/7 UK phone calls the XL TV package and regular broadband. Seemed good to me but every one of the bills since has been for between £35 and £45 and I've yet to get an explanation when I've phoned up. had everything from "Oh it's the VAT" to "We don't do a package at that price".

So I.D., I'll happily take up your offer of realigning my VM services. hardly watch any channels other than those we could get via Freeview so probably pay over the odds there and refuse to pay for Movie or Sports channels. Average to just below average phone use but knowing we have no call charges is nice to know. One person in the house has a Virgin mobile but that is PAYG and although the computer is permanently connected and I'd like it to be as fast as possible nobody here plays online games etc so I'm not convinced mega speeds would really make a lot of difference (I can only type so fast!).

Wow... I just completely ingonored all the problems you guys are having.. now thats a salesperson for you

My TV service is fine.. never cut out once.. phone sweet and a very good bb service.. considering my pc is full of c*** (not the best).. runs at about 17.5mb which I wont complain about..

I have request a V+ boc 5 times in the last 4 months and they ignore my emails..

all in all.. VM have a lot of work cut out for them, transforming NTHell to a reputable company. Virgin have a good reputation and things will get better but its like turning something horrible into something good... it will take time and there are still loads of issues to deal with, I worked for NTL and they were a bag of dogpoo... there are loads of decent things VM are trying but they have a lot to do as there is a stigma attached to NTL..

Sky on the other hand.. I had loads of problems with, was with them for 8 years.. they were quite rude.. BT were ok but expensive.. and every bb provider I have tried had nothing on Telewest/Ntl/VM..

complain enough.. see what happens..

p.s i meant take 'extra' services I can whack on stupid discounts.. but if i mess with accounts unless a sale is involved.. well, i wont be working there much longer

I used to have Birmingham Cable which changed to Telewest which became VM. All that's happened is that the TV service deteriorated (complete lack of progress to digital and channels being removed daily) to the extent that I switched to Sky and just retained the phone service. Now that's 'changing' under VM from charging per second to per minute so the costs will go up! Mind you, Sky have just advised a 'change' to the monthly subscription - upwards of course  !
