Sword Through Card

Postby Schwen » Jul 4th, '07, 13:12

Am looking to find where I can purchase this trick. The only places I have found have been fairly expensive as they include a sword/knife with them. I already have a pretty impressive sword (the brides sword from kill bill) and would like to incorporate this into it if this is possible. What I am looking for is somewhere I can buy the technique from.

Now if this is usally done with a gimmicked sword or knife, please don't laugh at me  but I'm fairly certain it's not/doesn't need to be

It's known as a Card Sword... the cheap ones start at around $150.00 with the better one's (such as you'd find at Owens') running close to if not over $1,000.00

That's just for the sword and how to create the idea of the trick.

ah I see, was really hoping this could be done with an ordinary sword

thanks for the advice, would really like to add this one to my armoury (pun half intended) but cannot afford to shell out just that much at the moment

It can be done with an ordinary sword, but I'm not sure what books have the method in.

For those who remember the Channel 4 'Faking It' series with Kevin McMahon ( http://www.kevinmcmahonmagic.com/ ), thread at http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic4308.php, the method using an ungaffed, but not unprepared, sword was shown on that program.

Jay Sankey has a version in his book Sankey Unleashed. It is the last effect in the book, and it is called Paper Cloud. Check it out!

Thanks guys! Michael, would you suggest the version by sankey

and can anyone remember where else similar methods might be taght? I was erring on the side of caution when it comes to sankey unleashed, but this might just make me go buy it unless anyone can tell me otherwise.

The Sankey method in Sankey Unleashed is good, but it uses a knife. Is that alright?

There are ungaffed methods, but the ones with prop swords tend to be more impressive.

Incidentally, I think there's one that's based on the Bride's sword. Not cheap, mind you.
